MLK II - "We Shall Not Be Moved" and "A Dream Built on Faith" "We Shall Not Be Moved", 41' x 17' Acrylic on Parachute Cloth, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken (526 East MLK Blvd.) 85 STEM and Howard School students; August 2012 - June 2013 Students studied the history and cultural impact of the Chattanooga sit-ins. Using archival photographs and engaging in dialogue with sit-in participant Booker T. Scruggs, students learned firsthand about the determination and courage of the sit-in participants. These workshops resulted in student generated design material, using Harlem Renaissance artist Jacob Lawrence as stylistic inspiration. The professional artist team then collaged the two schools' content, creating the final mural design. Mark Making transferred the image onto a portable cloth substrate and held painting sessions with students and interested community members. "A Dream Built On Faith" 29' x 11' Acrylic on Parachute Cloth Whiteside Park (756 East MLK Blvd.) 21 Urban League of Greater Chattanooga and UTC Brock Scholars Program students August 2012 - November 2013 "A Dream Built On Faith" celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. William H. Whiteside (1909-2002), founder of Good Neighbors, Inc. Dr. Whiteside dedicated his life serving others with love, respect and compassion. He founded Good Neighbors, Inc in 1952 to help feed, clothe, house, and minister to Chattanooga's less fortunate. Perhaps of most impact was the culmination of his dream to build Whiteside's Faith Manor, Chattanooga's first residential facility for low-income elderly and handicapped African-Americans.$0$16,446
East Chattanooga - FACE to FACE - 450 square feet acrylic on Parachute Cloth. Over 45 students from Girls Inc and Hope for the Inner City. July through December 2013.
