Activity 2

Research & policy development - advance illinois conducts secondary research into education and education reform for the purpose of developing a policy agenda to educate stakeholders and the public on changes to be made to the illinois' education system. This research involves advice from experts in the field including forums and conferences to understand best practice in core areas of education reform. Research includes the development of position papers that provide overviews of reform areas and make recommendations for changes at the state, district, school and community level. Areas of interest include the development of effective teachers and principals and their equitable distribution, the promotion of standards and a system of assessments, community and parent engagement, data systems and the use of data, and student support systems that provide for better learning environments.

Activity 3

Publications - advance illinois develops and commissions reports to spotlight areas of interest for education reform in illinois. Following two years of meetings, research, and collaboration, advance illinois developed and published in september 2010 a biannual report named "the state we're in" that presents data about outcomes of illinois' education system from birth through college. Advance illinois also commissioned a study of teacher preparation programs that was published by the national council on teacher quality in november of 2010; and was a lead partner in the publications of "the illinois sig toolkit: incorporating key components into districts' sig applications" in february 2011 and "a new beginning: the illinois kindergarten individual development survey" in april 2011.
