IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom0The Soy Transportation Coalition's (STC) goal is to promote a cost-effective, reliable, and competitive transportation system that serves the soybean industry. The focus is on the entire journey from farm to dinner plate, which encompasses the integrity of our roads and bridges, the competitiveness of the rail industry, and investment in our nation's locks and dams.In July of 2009, the STC completed analysis on the impact of increased weight limits on road wear and tear and on motorist safety. Increased throughput can certainly be achieved on our nation's highway and interstate system with increased truck weight limits, but this should not be at the expense of motorist safety and infrastructure integrity. This topic is currently relevant given the U.S. Congress' plans in 2009 and 2010 to reauthorize the nation's surface transportation laws and funding mechanism. The analysis has been disseminated to the media and is posted on the STC's website.A report, issued twice a month, on regulatory, legislative, and administrative issues that impact agricultural transportation is compiled and disseminated as well as posted on the STC's website (www.soybeantransportation.org). The STC completed a study focused on the movement of soybeans and soy products via the rail network to more accurately identify specific transportation challenges in specific soybean producing regions of the United States. Developing such an understanding and expertise is a necessary precursor to discovering and promoting solutions to the transportation challenges affecting the soybean industry.
