IRS990ScheduleC/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0LOBBYING FY 2022-23 CONSUMER ACTION EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATED IN A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF MEETINGS WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS IN WASHINGTON, DC, TO PRESERVE THE CONSUMER PROTECTION RULE- WRITING AND ENFORCEMENT DUTIES OF THE CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU (CFPB) THAT HAVE COME UNDER REGULAR POLITICAL ATTACK. CONSUMER ACTION HAS SENT A FEW ADVOCACY ALERTS TO OUR NETWORK OF COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBOS) TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO SUPPORT THE CFPB'S CONSUMER PROTECTION DUTIES. WE HAVE ALSO MET WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFFERS TO URGE CONGRESS TO REINSTATE THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION'S SECTION 13B AUTHORITY TO REQUIRE DEFENDANTS TO PAY REFUNDS TO HARMED CONSUMERS. WE HAVE MET WITH FEDERAL REGULATORY AGENCIES TO URGE THEM TO CRAFT A RULE THAT WOULD PROVIDE REFUNDS FOR AIRLINE PASSENGERS IMPACTED BY CANCELLED OR SIGNIFICANTLY DELAYED FLIGHTS; TO REQUIRE MORTGAGE ORIGINATORS AND SERVICERS TO ASK BORROWERS THEIR LANGUAGE PREFERENCE AND TO MAKE ESSENTIAL DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE IN THE PRIMARY LANGUAGES THAT THEIR CUSTOMERS PREFER; AND TO SUPPORT FEDERAL AGENCIES' EFFORTS TO EXPOSE, LIMIT AND ELIMINATE 'JUNK' FEES IN FINANCIAL, AUTO, HOSPITALITY AND OTHER INDUSTRIES.
