IRS990/Desc0Three Summer Employment Programs:Career Exploration Program (CEP): An award winning 7-week summer internship program for 56 juniors and seniors, designed to allow youth the opportunity to experience a field of interest to them. By matching youth to an expressed area of interest, they gain real-life experience and learn what the actual job entails and what it takes to work towards that job while earning a stipend for the internship. By interning in a work environment, youth gain access to a multitude of career choices that work in conjunction with their matched internship supervisor, exposing students to a broader band of jobs within their desired field. CEP offers a support system through site supervisors who structure the work experience and offer on-site direction and advisors who are Enterprise recruited and trained volunteers who check in with the youth and help them process their experience.CEP Interns are required to complete four pre-internship workshops prior to the start of their internship in order to successfully prepare for their internship experience. Once the internship begins, interns must attend three workshops, an individual check-in, final project check-in, and the final transitional check-in. Each pre-internship workshop builds on previous knowledge gained in other programs provided by Enterprise. Each week, interns were also required to respond to six weekly projects: Project 1: Adapting; Project 2: Devising Action Plan w/ Site Supervisor; Project 3: Advocating for Yourself; Project 4: Conducting Informational Interview w/ Site Supervisor (interns could also conduct informational interviews with other individuals in a position they aspired to do); Project 5: Write Your Own Recommendation Letter; Project 6: Update Your Rsum and Complete a Reflection Paper. At the end of the internship, the youth prepare a presentation that culminates their internship at a Final Celebration, attended by their advisors and supervisors. All interns worked in small groups to present an 8-minute presentation during the Final Celebration. The presentation is an opportunity to share the highlights of their internship experience, to discuss a specific project they worked on, and to share their major work-based milestones and accomplishments they achieved. CEP is proud to work with corporate sponsors who include Kaiser Permanente, First Republic Bank, Wells Fargo, Farella Braun + Martel, and Korn Ferry. Additional internship sites include but are not limited to medical and dental practices, architectural and engineering firms, interior and graphic design businesses, investment firms, law firms, government departments and supervisors offices, and social service providers. Summer Gardening Program: Enterprise for High School Students Summer Gardening Program provides summer employment and job training to 24 high school students in three of San Franciscos city parks. Students worked in at the Buena Vista Park, SF Botanical Garden and Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park for seven weeks, from 9:00 1:00 and were paid the hourly minimum wage.At each park site, students work in teams of eight and are supervised by a Team Leader. Projects include park maintenance, landscaping, soil conservation, erosion control, pruning, weeding, urban forestry and trail repair. To practice public speaking skills, youth also give tours of the parks.Students gain horticultural skills as well as communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. They learn the importance of punctuality, having a positive attitude, and hard work. They also further their ability to problem solve and to follow instructions. The youth also participate in financial literacy training where they learn the value of tracking expenses, creating a budget, and setting savings goals. The program incorporates many youth development activities and games, which provide a safe environment for the youth to develop positive relationships with co-workers and to assist in their own self-discover
