Mission

Community mental health counseling services to primarily low income children, adults and families.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Truancy Intervention and Prevention Program TIPP The overall goal of reducing truancy is to prevent drop outs and to prepare students for higher education The program focuses on the factors which contribute to truancy By addressing attendanc e issues early and involving parents in the success of their childrens education TIPP is designed to prevent school failure potential juvenile delinquency and the lifelong consequences of truancy TIPP assists in positively changing academic outc omes and in future life success The objectives are to 1 increase school attendance 2 promote school success 3 empower students and their parents 4 provide early intervention 5 reduce drop out rates
Activity 3
Sexual Abuse Treatment Program SATP goals are to help the adult and child victims of sexual abuse or assault cope with their effects alleviating emotional distress and behavioral problems and improving family and social relationships Several tr eatment modalities are available to clients based upon their particular needs at the time they seek therapy Because sexual abuse does not discriminate based on age play therapy is available for victims as young as 3 years old Services are offered in English and Spanish Once a history of sexual abuseassault is determined the client and therapist develop an appropriate treatment plan containing goals for the therapy The initial sessions focus on establishing a collaborative relationship and build the clients trust in the therapist Relationship development is critical to the success of therapy for a sexual abuse survivor because this abuse is a violation of trust This allows them to re-experience their trauma in a therapeutic s upportive setting - a step that is often necessary for healing Survivors of sexual abuseassault are likely to experience post traumatic stress disorder dissociative disorders anxiety disorders andor engage in substance abuse The entrenched nature of the damage caused by this type of abuse makes treatment unique for these clients Often this population experiences developmental arrest from the time of the trauma relationship eg their emotional reactions to crises would be development ally appropriate for a 10-year old because that is when their abuse occurred The main issues addressed are shame reduction self forgiveness self worth boundaries realistic self assessment positive self care and moderation Their lives are ofte n in a constant state of crisis requiring vigilant monitoring by the therapist for suicidality and self-injurious behaviors Therapy itself can trigger an intense trauma flashback therefore client progress mus be carefully supervised to ensure they are prepared for the next level of therapy If a therapist feels their client is ready the client can also join our sexual abuse survivors group There the client is able to create new strong healing relationships with others who have experienc ed the trauma of sexual abuse Both the client and the therapist separately assess goal attainment on the 8th session and again at termination Goals are added and modified as needed Because of the chaos and fragility in their lives extra care is taken in the termination process Often therapists will recommend organized social activities outside of a therapeutic setting to aid in transitioning the client to self care

IRS990/Description0Child and family Counseling Through individual group and play therapy sessions CFC addresses issues such as sexual abuse depression family violence and relationship difficulties For children as young as three these counseling sessions help t hem to understand what is happening and gives them tools to manage their feelings Early intervention and family participation is fundamental to our approach It is vital to support healing and rebuild family relationships The agencys goals ar e to help clients cope with effects of abuse provide children and families with the skills to effectively manage behavior problems and promote healing among families and increase the safety of children We administer follow up evaluations at eig ht sessions for CFC with a goal of at least 60 of clients making a five point increase in the assessment score
