FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Delivering discovery - for 45 years artrain, a nonprofit arts organization, has delivered world class arts and cultural exhibitions with accompanying education programs to under-resourced communities throughout the united states. Artrain's mission is to deliver discovery and - through the power of arts and culture - transform lives, organizations and communities. More than 3.2 million people have participated in artrain programs in villages, towns and cities across the united states and, most recently, canada. Since its founding in 1971, artrain has helped start or strengthen hundreds of cultural organizations. In recognition of its legacy, artrain received the national medal for museum service - the nation's highest award for museums. Originally artrain was a museum-on-a-train that used america's rail system to deliver art exhibitions. Today artrain produces and delivers cultural outreach programs of all types - art, cultural, history, science, environment, etc. Through a variety of methods including mobile touring exhibitions and cultural education and engagement programs.

To try new experiences. 2.strengthening nonprofits, building capacity and making creative dreams come true - artrain remains committed to strengthening & building capacity for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations through fiscal sponsorships and or administrative contracts. Since 2012 artrain has been contracted by the arts alliance of washtenaw county to provide administrative and project management services. The organizations share office space, resources and staff. The arts alliance, a young organization, benefits from artrain's administrative expertise and artrain gains an intimate knowledge of local arts agency challenges that enhances its national organizational capacity- building work. Encouraged by this success, artrain resolved to assist other like-minded projects and is offering fiscal sponsorships for worthwhile but vulnerable artistic or cultural programs that are not or may not need to be an independent nonprofit. Artrain is presently working with individual artists and visionaries) to help them bring their artistic goals to fruition. Current and recent projects include: the arts alliance, selma caf, the ypsilanti 24-hour film shoot out, wonderfool productions and two films: the bob ufer story and commie high: the film. 3.paths to peace: a war of 1812 arts legacy project - artrain and the national park service (nps) developed paths to peace (p2p), an international history and arts based education program targeting middle school students from canada and the united states to interpret the war of 1812 while also meeting the united states and canadian educational standards. P2p is examines historical events from multiple perspectives: the us, britain/canada and first nations/american indian and impresses upon students the virtues of the 200 year peace that has existed between canada and the united states. Preparation for the 2015-2016 program are underway. Ypsilanti community schools (ycs) and greater essex county district in windsor, ontario will participate. The project is funded in part by nps and requires additional support from artrain and local communities.
