Activity 2

Children and Family ServicesKSS offers a fully integrated system of early education, early intervention and individualized behavioral health care services for children and families through its children and family services. Applying an innovative, multi-dimensional, and holistic perspective, KSS considers the child and their family within the entire context of home, family, school and community and work to help each succeed in these important realms. KSS strengthens children and families in their own communities as they strive to achieve immediate and long-term success.KSS provides Children and Family Services through a wide range of programs including: Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS), Therapeutic Foster Care and Host Home Services, Early Intervention (EI), Family Preservation and Reunification, Summer Therapeutic Activities Program, Family-Based Mental Health Services, Student Assistance Program, Susquehanna Service Dogs, and Capital Area Head Start (CAHS). Children and families receive services in a variety of settings ranging from home, school and community environments to traditional office settings or therapeutic residential homes. Approximately 2,565 individuals receive services through these programs.Notable accomplishments for fiscal year 2012 include:Fourth Grade Students scored higher on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) in literacy and math than peers who had not participated in our preschool program. This is collaboration between Capital Area Head Start and the Harrisburg School District. The evaluation was completed by the Penn State Prevention Research Center. The Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) placed 11 service dogs, 1 companion dog, and 1 hearing dog during the 2012 fiscal year. SSD secured a 5 year grant from a private foundation to develop ongoing fundraising support for the long-term sustainability of SSD. The implementation of an internship program proved to be very successful both internally and externally. The purpose of the internship program is to address the evaluation process, to enhance clinical staff, and to infuse all the mental health programs with a higher level of clinical sophistication. The interns completed almost 300 evaluations during the year. Revision of the evaluation and treatment planning process were extremely beneficial. . The Interns provided additional support to Host Home and Capital Area Head Start programs during the time of transition. CBHNP Chief of Clinical Staff praised KSS as a preferred evaluator.

Activity 3

Mental Health ServicesKSS's Mental Health Adult Services directs, supports and empowers people who experience mental illness develop the means to live with dignity and respect in communities of their choice, with meaningful relationships and in valued social roles. KSS provides services in 12 counties in Pennsylvania, and 2 counties in Maryland through a network of services designed to meet the specific and unique needs of each person experiencing mental illness through programs Residential Homes Services, Community-Based Supports, and employment supports. Services are offered in a variety of settings ranging from the homes of the individuals served to KSS owned homes, the community, employment centers, psychiatric rehabilitation programs, and drop-in centers. Over 1,200 individuals receive services through these programs. Notable accomplishments for fiscal year 2012 include:KSS continues to be chosen by families to provide services due to the comprehensiveness of the services that are totally focused on meeting, with dignity, the needs of the individuals served. The Keystone Center in Chambersburg, PA transitioned successfully to a Medicaid Reimbursement Fee-for-Service program. This is the only "site based" licensed Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program in south central Pennsylvania.KSS continues developing the Mental Health Leadership Council, including 35 people at different stages of recovery. Leadership Council members presented at statewide and national conferences during the fiscal year. They have also been involved in assisting with the interviewing process for key staff at KCMHS along with assisting with training/education and producing a quarterly newsletter.
