Researchdrexel researchers work across disciplines to increase the world's store of knowledge and translate that new knowledge into solutions with tremendous positive impact on society. The university's research enterprise continues to grow and attract increasing extramural support, including sponsored research funding of $116.8 million in fy2012. Drexel is specifically committed to translational research, rigorous academic work that tangibly translates into intellectual progress and social good. Working with the wallace h. Coulter foundation, which helped drexel establish a $20 million translational research endowment in 2011, the university has become a model for best practices in the field, mentoring institutions across the united states and the world to increase the capacity for life-saving and society-changing discovery.notable recent research advances at drexel impacted critical subjects ranging from food safety (a demonstration that plasma can kill pathogens on uncooked poultry) to wound healing (a noninvasive device to measure oxygenation of wounds) to cancer care (a study of the positive effects of music therapy on anxiety, pain and quality of life for patients), to name just a few. And new drexel faculty members affiliated with the academy of natural sciences have helped make the university a leader in fields associated with global climate change, including environmental degradation, biodiversity, global ecosystem interactions and sustainability.drexel's researchers are building the global partnerships that will be critical to create 21st-century solutions to america's challenges. Some key examples include the opening in 2012 of the drexel-sari center in shanghai, which houses research collaborations and educational partnerships with the shanghai advanced research institute (sari) and provides a shanghai base for drexel activities, and the university's ongoing partnership with the institute for drug research of the hebrew university of jerusalem, under which new treatment possibilities for multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, asthma and skin cancer are moving towards commercialization.during fy12, drexel university conducted research on the following research grants:federally sponsored research - 574 grantsstate of pennsylvania sponsored research - 52 grantscity of philadelphia contracts - 7 grantsprivate foundation sponsored research - 127 grantsindustry sponsored research - 50 grants
