Activity 2

Ensuring a GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY for as many students as possible. Arcadia is distinct in that all of our students-undergraduate and graduate alike-engage in integrative, real-world learning opportunities such as internships, evidence-based research, service learning, interdisciplinary study, problem-based learning, and co-curricular learning experiences that expand beyond the traditional classroom. 82% of the undergraduate class graduating in May 2012 had used their passports while they were students at Arcadia. In 2012, 310 freshmen and 50 transfer students studied in 15 cities around the globe during spring break, as part of an academic (2-credit) program. 84 freshmen studied abroad during their first year, in either England or Scotland, and 699 other Arcadia students studied abroad during 2011-12. In 2009, the University adopted a "Global Connections" undergraduate curriculum that ensures immersion with global issues through study abroad or a domestic global experience. Graduate programs also include either curricular or co-curricular (e.g., pro bono service) requirements and/or opportunities for our students. In addition to more than 4,000 students on its U.S. campuses, Arcadia provides educational opportunities at its centers and programs around the world to more than 3,000 students annually from other colleges and universities through The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Activity 3

We believe that living in close proximity to others who are different is a critically important way for students to learn important life skills, and we treat RESIDENTIAL LIFE at college as additional opportunities for learning. Our desire is to ensure that the living arrangements support and enhance student educational work and goals. While our primary goal is to provide safe living environments conducive to study and academic success, we encourage and support the development of the following core competencies in our students: diversity and inclusion, global perspectives, civic engagement; citizenship; self-advocacy; problem-solving; respect for others; mediation; and the development of identity, purpose, and integrity. Within the residence halls and apartments, an engaged team of paraprofessional and professional staff use the physical structure of the living environment as a tool to maximize learning moments and challenge students to develop and apply these competencies. In 2012 Arcadia provided first-year students (freshmen) the option to select to live on a theme floor to add an innovative twist to the traditional housing experience by adding a more intentional, focused social opportunity based on a theme.
