IRS990/Description0PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS PROJECT PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FY 2011 9/1/10 - 8/31/11 FIELDWORK: DESIGNING AND FACILITATING CONVERSATIONS ON DIVISIVE ISSUES INCLUDING ABORTION, POST-CIVIL WAR RECONCILIATION, POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT, SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND RELIGION. FIELDWORK ACHIEVEMENTS IN FY 2011 INCLUDE: 1. HELPING WOMEN EX-COMBATANTS IN LIBERIA TO BECOME SELF-SUSTAINING AND REINTEGRATED INTO SOCIETY THROUGH A PROGRAM CALLED "WOMEN HOLD UP HALF THE SKY." THE PROJECT WORKED WITH WAR-AFFECTED WOMEN WHO EITHER SERVED IN THE FIGHTING FORCES OR EXPERIENCED GENDER VIOLENCE DURING THE LIBERIAN CIVIL WAR. WHILE BEING MENTORED BY FORMER COMBATANTS AND INSTRUCTED IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, PARTICIPANTS WERE TRAINED IN DIALOGUE FACILITATION IN ORDER TO PREPARE THEM TO ORGANIZE AND FACILITATE COMMUNITY DIALOGUES TO PROMOTE REINTEGRATION. 2. DEVELOPING AND HOSTING A SERIES OF GENDER DIALOGUES THAT PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN AND MEN TO REFLECT UPON AND SHARE THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES OF GENDER AND TO BOTH RESPOND TO AND ASK QUESTIONS IN A THOUGHTFUL, INTENTIONAL WAY. 3. DEVELOPING AND FACILITATING A SERIES OF INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUES ABOUT WORLD WAR II. 4. SUPPORTING THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE FAMILY DINNER PROJECT, WHICH ENCOURAGES FAMILIES TO COOK TOGETHER, EAT TOGETHER AND HAVE DINNERTIME CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER. THE FAMILY DINNER PROJECT, NOW A PROGRAM OF THE PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS PROJECT, WORKS TO STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND TO HELP WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF ETHICS AND VALUES IN CHILDREN. 5. SUPPORTING THE LAUNCH OF T-CELLS, (TRANSFORMATIVE CELLS) IN MANILA, PHILIPPINES. THIS IS A NATIONAL DIALOGUE PROJECT THAT AIMS TO "BUILD A NETWORK OF AT LEAST 1,000,000 PEOPLE WHO WILL CHOOSE A MINDSET OF LISTENING AND UNDERSTANDING, RATHER THAN DEBATING." TRAINING: OFFERING WORKSHOPS THAT ENHANCE PEOPLE'S CAPACITY TO FACILITATE AND ENGAGE IN MORE CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL, CIVIC OR PERSONAL LIVES. TRAINING ACHIEVEMENTS IN FY 2011 INCLUDE: 1. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING VIDEO, AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE, ON PCP'S WEBSITE. DIALOGUE, A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP (WWW.PUBLICCONVERSATIONS.ORG/VIDEO-SERIES/VIRTUALWORKSHOP/SEC1) BREAKS PCP'S DIALOGUE PROCESS DOWN INTO EIGHT COMPONENTS. THOROUGH EXPLANATIONS OF EACH COMPONENT ARE PROVIDED AS WELL AS COMMENTARY BY EXPERIENCED FACILITATORS AND LINKS TO PRINTED MATERIALS THAT AMPLIFY THE CONTENT OF THE VIDEOS. 2. DEVELOPMENT OF PROGRAMS OFFERED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO TO MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY AND OTHERS: POWER OF DIALOGUE; FORGING THE PRESENT: LEADERSHIP, AUTHORITY AND DIALOGUE; LETTING GO TO LEAD: CONVENING AND FACILITATION WHEN STAKES ARE HIGH 3. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING OFFERED TO MIDDLE AND SENIOR MANAGERS AT A PUBLIC UTILITY TO GIVE THEM TOOLS FOR DESIGNING AND FACILITATING MORE CONSTRUCTIVE MEETINGS WITH EACH OTHER AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. 4. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING OFFERED TO MEMBERS OF THE CLERGY TO AID THEM IN THE VARIOUS DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS THEY HAVE WITH MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITY. 4. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING PROVIDED AT A STATE UNIVERSITY AS PART OF ITS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TO HELP STAFF ENGAGE AROUND ISSUES OF INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY MORE EFFECTIVELY. 5. DEVELOPING AND HOSTING A SERIES OF GENDER DIALOGUES THAT PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN AND MEN TO REFLECT UPON AND SHARE THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES OF GENDER AND TO BOTH RESPOND TO AND ASK QUESTIONS IN A THOUGHTFUL, INTENTIONAL WAY. 3. DEVELOPING AND FACILITATING A SERIES OF INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUES ABOUT WORLD WAR II. 4. SUPPORTING THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE FAMILY DINNER PROJECT, WHICH ENCOURAGES FAMILIES TO COOK TOGETHER, EAT TOGETHER AND HAVE DINNERTIME CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER. THE FAMILY DINNER PROJECT, NOW A PROGRAM OF THE PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS PROJECT, WORKS TO STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND TO HELP WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF ETHICS AND VALUES IN CHILDREN. 5. SUPPORTING THE LAUNCH OF T-CELLS, (TRANSFORMATIVE CELLS) IN MANILA, PHILIPPINES. THIS IS A NATIONAL DIALOGUE PROJECT THAT AIMS TO "BUILD A NETWORK OF AT LEAST 1,000,000 PEOPLE WHO WILL CHOOSE A MINDSET OF LISTENING AND UNDERSTANDING, RATHER THAN DEBATING." TRAINING: OFFERING WORKSHOPS THAT ENHANCE PEOPLE'S CAPACITY TO FACILITATE AND ENGAGE IN MORE CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL, CIVIC OR PERSONAL LIVES. TRAINING ACHIEVEMENTS IN FY 2011 INCLUDE: 1. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING VIDEO, AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE, ON PCP'S WEBSITE. DIALOGUE, A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP (WWW.PUBLICCONVERSATIONS.ORG/VIDEO-SERIES/VIRTUALWORKSHOP/SEC1) BREAKS PCP'S DIALOGUE PROCESS DOWN INTO EIGHT COMPONENTS. THOROUGH EXPLANATIONS OF EACH COMPONENT ARE PROVIDED AS WELL AS COMMENTARY BY EXPERIENCED FACILITATORS AND LINKS TO PRINTED MATERIALS THAT AMPLIFY THE CONTENT OF THE VIDEOS. 2. DEVELOPMENT OF PROGRAMS OFFERED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO TO MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY AND OTHERS: POWER OF DIALOGUE; FORGING THE PRESENT: LEADERSHIP, AUTHORITY AND DIALOGUE; LETTING GO TO LEAD: CONVENING AND FACILITATION WHEN STAKES ARE HIGH 3. DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAINING OFFERED TO MIDDLE AND SENIOR MANAGERS AT A PUBLIC UTILITY TO GIVE THEM TOOLS FOR DESIGNING AND FACILITATING MORE CONSTRUCTIVE MEETINGS WITH EACH OTHER AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. 4.
