Saidiana is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women in lubumbashi, democratic republic of congo. We operate in an economy where it's typical for someone to earn 2 per day if they even have employment. We provide small grants to collectives of women with drive and dreams to enable them to start, improve or expand microbusinesses. The women we serve have no other access to capital. We also operate two sewing trade schools in partnership with another nonprofit, congo children trust, at which we train women in sewing and basic business skills to give them a livelihood. Additionally we operate a hair dresser training program. By giving women the opportunities to earn better livings, they have hope for a better future, contribute valuable goods and services to their communities, and are able to take better care of their children.

“Sewing school - with no education, no spouse and no income, women are often treated as outcasts, but by teaching them a skill where they gain confidence, they are truly empowered to take charge of their own lives. Saidiana improved 4 women's lives and families by training them how to sew and providing them a kit to start their own business upon graduation. Through the collaboration with kimbilio, a nonprofit based in england that works in the congo, we were able to share facilities and staff. We were also able to follow up on past graduates to provide guidance and additional accounting support. 11,559 was spent on this program, which included money that went toward a cohort of students that began their course in 2021 and graduated in 2022.”
“Beautician school - most of the women in our program are abandoned by their families usually through the death of their mother and remarriage of their father. They are turned out onto the streets and therefor forced to make a living through prostitution. Most of our women want to start new lives because they now have their own children, so we meet that need by providing a new path for these young mums by providing beautician training. In 2021 our program graduated 9 students and a total of 5,020 was spent.”
“Grants program - our grants program funded three new projects in 2021. One grant funded a new training salon with a supervisor, equipment, and space for recent graduates of our young mums program, the second funded a party rental startup, and the third funded a chicken raising expansion project. A total of 28,872 was spent on the grants program, which included money for the current grants as well as staff to support ongoing projects that were funded in previous years.”
