Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The 990 is presented to the Board of Directors in draft form. Board members review the form and staff address any questions the Board may have in regards to the document.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

One Equal Heart has a written conflict of interest policy, which Board members review and sign annually. The policy requires disclosure of interests, relationships and holdings that could potentially result in a conflict of interest. Board members are also requested to disclose, on an ongoing basis, any potential conflicts of interest in an organizational transaction or decision, which would affect themselves, their family members, their employer or associates. Board members may not participate in discussion or voting on such matters.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The steps the board takes to establish Executive Director compensation are as follows: -Delegate to the Governance Committee of the Board of Directors to determine the compensation of the Executive Director. -Conduct research regarding a similar position, in a similar size organization with a similar mission in a similar geographic locale. -Write a compensation policy. -Write and approve an offer for the candidate. This process was used in 2019 to hire the Executive Director and was used most recently in 2023 to update the Executive Director's compensation.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

One Equal Heart Foundation's Form 990, Form 1023, Bylaws, Conflict of Interest Policy, and Financial Statements are all available upon request at the office. In addition, Form 990 is available on public websites such as candid.org

IRS990/Desc0Growing Food & Building Economies and Women's Rights: The Project " Tseltal Women strengthen the harmony and good living of their families" works with 150 Tseltal women, from 15 communities to reduce inequality between Indigenous women and men and increase the wellbeing of their families. They produce diverse and nutritious food, earn money selling crop surpluses in local markets, and through project activities, they also improve their self-esteem, increase awareness of gender equity, and participate more actively in making decisions in their communities. Project implemented by the Centro de Formación Integral para Promotores Indígenas (CEFIPI). The project " Kuxlejaltik, Tsotsil families work to achieve Food Sovereignty" works with 40 Tsotsil families in Tojtic and Oxinam, two communities from the poorest region in Chiapas, to improve their health and basic living conditions, towards food autonomy and development. Families access to water from the community reservoir. Women learn to produce diverse food in their vegetable gardens, raise chickens, and learn how to prepare more nutritious food. Families reduce gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases caused by smoke inhalation and shortages of healthy water. Project implemented by Centro de investigación y Servicios Profesionales (CISERP).

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0One Equal Heart Foundation added the new program & grant category of 'Environmental Conservation' in 2023.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The 990 is presented to the Board of Directors in draft form. Board members review the form and staff address any questions the Board may have in regards to the document.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2One Equal Heart has a written conflict of interest policy, which Board members review and sign annually.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The steps the board takes to establish Executive Director compensation are as follows: -Delegate to the Governance Committee of the Board of Directors to determine the compensation of the Executive Director.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4One Equal Heart Foundation's Form 990, Form 1023, Bylaws, Conflict of Interest Policy, and Financial Statements are all available upon request at the office. In addition, Form 990 is available on public websites such as candid.org
