“Form 990 including all schedules and attachments, are sent to the directors and members of the board in draft form seeking review and comments, along with a transmittal e-mail calling their attention to sections of the form most likely to be of interest to members of the public and potential donors.”
“The Abundance Foundation is a small organization so relationships which could give rise to conflicts are easily identifiable. In 2011, a form requesting information on conflicts resulting from any family or business relationship was sent to and completed by members of the board and corporate officers with a request to advise other members of the board of any changes that may occur in subsequent years. This form was updated by all directors and officers in 2021. If such a relationship is reported or known, the directors follow the procedures of the Conflict of Interest Policy which directs full disclosure of all facts and circumstances, consideration by the board of the nature and seriousness of the conflict and makes a decision whether to enter into the transaction and, if so, to ensure the terms of the transaction are appropriate. The potentially interested person must recuse him or herself from any decision which could benefit him or her personally.”
“The independent members of the Board consult with legal Counsel, review compensation surveys and materials complied by Counsel, and confer with individuals working in the nonprofit field to determine a reasonable salary for the CEO based on the job description and professional credentials required.”
“The full Board consults with legal Counsel, reviews compensation surveys and materials complied by Counsel, and confers with individuals working in the nonprofit field to determine a reasonable salary for the CEO based on the job description and professional credentials required.”
“No documents other than Forms 990 and 1023 are available to the public.”

“Inspired by his mentor, Dr. Paul Farmer, Dr. Kahn has long been committed to overcoming the structural barriers that prevent robust collaboration between individuals and organizations; the very partnerships that are required to change paradigms and realize health equity. Having completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School (HMS), in 2023 Dr. Kahn continued serving on HMS's Board of Fellows and chairing its Global Health and Service Advisory Council. Ever since Dr. Farmer's unexpected death in early 2022, Dr. Kahn has worked closely with HMS to safeguard a smooth transition in the leadership of HMSs Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (DGHSM) and to ensure the lasting influence of Dr. Farmer's legacy advancing health equity. In 2023, Dr. Kahn continued to work with many of Dr. Farmers most generous donors to support existing programs to thrive and to catalyze new ambitious collaborative programs involving the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (DGHSM) and Partners In Health (PIH), with particular attention on the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda. A major milestone in this collective health equity effort involving these institutions occurred in 2023, with the creation of the Paul Farmer Collaborative that will support research, clinical training and student and faculty exchange, and the development of the field of social medicine. In 2023, Dr. Kahn continued to lead the Network of Engaged International Donors Global Health Affinity Group. The Network of Engaged International Donors is a peer-to-peer donor learning community that actively engages worldwide grantees and empowers the members of its philanthropic community to invest in meaningful, lasting change. In 2023, Dr. Kahn also sought strategies for the long-term sustainability of the work of Hands For Health, a Costa Rican non-profit, founded by Dr. Kahns mentor, Dr. Pablo Ortiz. Hands For Health seeks to improve the health and quality of life of indigenous and other vulnerable populations in Costa Rica, by highlighting and addressing social determinants of health. In 2023, the Abundance Foundation provided support for Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, an exceptional organization that provides health care and hope to people experiencing homelessness in Boston and beyond.2023 marked the thirteenth year of Abundance partnering with the Better Evidence program (at Ariadne Labs) and Wolters Kluwer to provide clinicians worldwide with free access to the digital clinical tool, UpToDate. UpToDate, was created by Dr. Kahns mentor, Dr. Bud Rose, who anticipated digital technologys role in ensuring continuous quality improvement in both healthcare and medical education. At Dr. Roses memorial service in 2023, Dr. Kahn spoke about his teacher and advocated for achieving Dr. Roses vision to ensure that every provider has just-in-time access to current, evidence-based, peer-reviewed clinical decision support. By 2023, Better Evidence has facilitated over 200,000 free subscriptions to clinicians serving vulnerable populations in 182 countries impacting more than 15 million clinical decisions. The Better Evidence for Training Program expanded to reach more than 89,000 medical students, residents, and faculty across 147 facilities in 16 countries. By working with 108 committed Champions, the Better Evidence for Training Program has been able to implement evidence-based medical tools at 59 medical schools across Africa.Dr. Kahn serves on the board of trustees of the Global Pediatric Alliance (GPA), supporting community-based healthcare, maternal, and infant health in Latin America. In 2023, Dr. Kahn's partnership and Abundance Foundation grants continued to support GPA's small grants program, which enabled community-driven projects to address severe child malnutrition, prevent respiratory diseases and burns, and strengthen the skills of 145 community health promoters in Mayan communities in Mexico and Guatemala, with a special focus on a”

The potentially interested person must recuse him or herself from any decision which could benefit him or her personally. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 9 | Inspired by his mentor, Dr. Kahn's partnership and Abundance Foundation grants continued to support GPA's small grants program, which enabled community-driven projects to address severe child malnutrition, prevent respiratory diseases and burns, and strengthen the skills of 145 community health promoters in Mayan communities in Mexico and Guatemala, with a special focus on a |
