Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Leading Youth to the Dream of Flight and Offering Adults Opportunities to Serve Through Aviation

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Saturday Free Flights: TigerFlight hosts organized youth groups usually on the First Saturday of the month. Youth who attend these events enjoy a 20-min aircraft ride and tours of the airport. This is our most popular youth activity. In 2022 we flew 103 youth on Young Eagles Flights.$0$15,925
Private Pilot License Orientation: We carefully select 5-8 AFJROTC cadets. Our objective is to make them competitive for selection to attend the USAF Flight Academy, a free program to earn a private pilot license over a summer. Cadets attend 8 hours of ground school and receive about 8 hours of inflight training. The instruction is pre-solo training with emphasis on basic aircraft control and understanding airport operations. In 2022, working with the six cadets, we delivered 22 hours of flight instruction and more than 10 hours of group ground instruction. The Flight Academy selected two of the six cadets we worked with!$0$13,271
Boy Scout Aviation Merit Badge Clinic: In 2022 TFF hosted only one Aviation Merit Badge Clinic. 14 Scouts and 4 adults participated in the clinic. The Scouts learned about the physics of flight, aircraft systems, navigation, how to preflight an aircraft, and how an airport operates. During the clinic each Scout has the opportunity to go for a 20-minute flight. TFF conducts these free flights for youth within the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagle program.$0$7,963
Airport Field Trips: In June 70 rising 8th graders from the Rome Scholars joined us in morning and afternoon groups at the TF Hangar. We talked briefly about the physics of flight, aircraft instruments, and parts of an aircraft. The students sat in the cockpit of the aircraft and watched the wings as they moved the flight controls. We finished with an activity making foam plate gliders and learning how to adjust the flight control surfaces to maneuver the glider.$0$7,963
TigerFlight Ground Crew: 10-15 AFJROTC cadets from Sequoyah High School in Canton, GA compose the TF Ground Crew. They support youth activities at the TF Hangar. The TF Ground Crew tow aircraft from the hangar in the morning and help pilots with their preflight. They set up desktop flight simulators and help guest youth fly the simulators. Working under the supervision of a TF Pilot, the TF Ground Crew manages the flight line. They escort guests walking from the hangar to the aircraft and marshal aircraft in and out of parking. When flying is complete for the day, the TF Ground Crew tow the aircraft back in the hangar and help clean the aircraft. Members of the TF Ground Crew regularly have the opportunity to fly with TF pilots and by interacting directly with pilots, learn about the aircraft and aviation in general. The TigerFlight Ground Crew is an integral and critical component of TigerFlight.$0$5,308
TigerFlight Formation Team: 5 of the 13 TF pilots make up the TigerFlight Formation Team. Four of them are former military pilots; two were fighter pilots. Each member of the TF Formation Team completed rigorous training and was certified by a Formation and Safety Team (FAST) check pilot. The pilots on the Team conduct regular training to maintain their formation proficiency. In 2022 the TF Formation Team delivered only one flyover to our community. TigerFlight delivered a missing man-salute as part of a ceremony to inter the unclaimed remains of military personnel at the Georgia National Cemetery.$0$2,654
"Pilot in Command of Your Life" Presentations: TF pilots offer these motivational presentations to youth groups and schools. We delivered two "PIC of Your Life" presentations in 2022. Each was in HS AFJROTC units recruiting cadets to apply for the TFF Private Pilot License Orientation program. Usually these presentations are part of field trips or other youth activities at the TF Hangar. Pilots speak about their experiences in aviation and weave through their path to becoming a pilot. The central themes include: It's up to you to Dream and take steps to pursue your Dream. Dream!! Establish a record of making appropriate decisions, pursue your dreams (not somebody else's). Establish excellence as a way of life, Don't be Good ...Be Great! Make plans to achieve your dreams, think long term, seek leadership opportunities, set short-term goals that lead to your long-term goal. Continually evaluate your progress toward your dream and make adjustments. Don't let short-term setbacks derail your pursuit of your long-term dream. Be resilient in pursing your dream. A dream without a plan is nothing more than a wish. Don't wish, Act!$0$0
