Provide public education and information to communities and neighborhoods regarding the need for affordable housing and propose strategies to increase the housing supply with particular emphasis on workforce housing; promote municipal land use ordinances that will create responsible and affordable housing; develop and implement strategies through which various entities work together to develop housing and sources of funding for affordable housing.

IN MARCH OF 2017 THE BOARD DECIDED TO SUSPEND OPERATIONS OF THE UPPER VALLEY HOUSING COALITION AND TO SEEK TO DEVELOP A NEW PLAN TO CONTINUE THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR UVHC RECEIVED A GRANT TO FACILITATE A TRANSITION TO A NEW STRUCTURE AND POSSIBLE MERGER WITH ANOTHER ORGANIZATION.$7,900$17,097
IN THE FALL OF 2016 WE LEVERAGED OUR EXPERTISE WITH LONG TERM DISASTER RECOVERY. USING FUNDS RECEIVED FROM THE VERMONT DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND HOMELAND SECURITY (DEMHS) WE CONSULTED WITH TWO OTHER AREAS IN VERMONT ON HOW TO SET UP AND MAINTAIN AN ORGANIZATION SUCH AS UPPER VALLEY STRONG IN THESE COMMUNITIES. ACTING AS A CONSULTANT, WE ASSISTED IN THE DESIGN AND CREATION OF NEW ORGANIZATIONS IN CHITTENDEN COUNTY AND IN WINDHAM COUNTY. IN GENERAL, FLOODING TENDS TO AFFECT HOUSING FOR PEOPLE WITH LOW TO MODERATE INCOMES DISPROPORTIONATELY TO THEIR SHARE OF THE POPULATION. THESE EFFORTS CONTRIBUTED TO THE LONG TERM PREPARATIONS FOR FUTURE FLOODING EVENTS WHICH ARE ANTICIPATED TO OCCUR.$6,630$17,097

THESE EVENTS ARE A FOCAL POINT FOR THE COMMUNITY'S CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOUSING THAT RECEIVES AMPLE COVERAGE FROM THE LOCAL PRESS. DATA COLLECTED BY THE COALITION IS PRESENTED ALONG WITH CURRENT TOPICAL INFORMATION THAT PERTAINS TO HOUSING ISSUES IN BOTH NEW HAMPSHIRE AND VERMONT.
