IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom0OUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE 2012-13 FISCAL YEAR WAS THE COMPLETION OF OUR WORK IN SUPPORT OF LONG-TERM RECOVERY FROM THE FLOODING CAUSED BY TROPICAL STORM IRENE. SOON AFTER THE STORM WE WERE INVITED TO LEAD UPPER VALLEY STRONG, A TEAM OF APPROXIMATELY 50 NON-PROFIT AGENCIES, CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, TOWNS, AND LOCAL BRANCHES OF STATE GOVERNMENT. THIS ORGANIZATION WAS TASKED WITH ASSISTING AFFECTED RESIDENTS WITH THEIR HOUSING RECOVERY. OUR WORK THIS PAST YEAR INCLUDED CONTINUED LEADERSHIP OF THE UPPER VALLEY STRONG COLLABORATION AS WELL AS WORKING CLOSELY WITH STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. AS OF THE END OF JUNE 2013 THIS WORK IS VIRTUALLY COMPLETE AND WE ARE NOW WORKING ON CREATING A STRATEGY FOR THE COMMUNITY TO DEVELOP RESILIENCE TO FUTURE EVENTS OF THIS TYPE.

WE HELD TWO SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS LEADERS BREAKFAST EVENTS, ONE IN SEPTEMBER 2012 WHICH FEATURED A LOOK AT THE NEW CITY OF LEBANON MASTER PLAN AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR HOUSING, AND ONE IN MAY 2013 AT WHICH WE HAD A PANEL DISCUSSION WITH LOCAL EMPLOYERS ON HOW THE HOUSING MARKET AFFECTS THEIR ABILITY TO HIRE AND RETAIN EMPLOYEES. IN ADDITION, WE CONTINUE TO SHARE THE LOCAL RENTAL DATA WE GATHER WITH MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. WE MADE NUMEROUS PRESENTATIONS ON TROPICAL STORM IRENE AND ITS EFFECTS ON HOUSING AS WELL AS PRESENTATIONS TO LOCAL BUSINESS, CONSERVATION AND OTHER COMMUNITY GROUPS ON THE WORKFORCE HOUSING CHALLENGE. WE MET WITH TWO DEVELOPERS TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL PROJECTS AND HAD EIGHT DISCUSSIONS WITH LOCAL AND REGIONAL REPORTERS ABOUT OUR WORK. FINALLY, WE ATTENDED A NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WORKFORCE HOUSING THIS YEAR AND WE UPGRADED OUR WEBSITE AND PRODUCED A NEW PRINTED BROCHURE TO PROMOTE OUR WORK.
IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom2TWO YEARS AGO THE UV STRONG WORK LED TO THE LAUNCH OF THE IRENE COTTAGE INITIATIVE, WHICH FOCUSED ON CREATING ENERGY EFFICIENT, AFFORDABLE REPLACEMENTS FOR MOBILE HOMES. THIS INITIATIVE HAS NOW PROGRESSED TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAVE DESIGNS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENT COTTAGE STYLE HOUSING THAT CAN BE BUILT LOCALLY. THESE MODULAR HOMES ARE DESIGNED TO BE PERMANENT HOUSING THAT IS BOTH ATTRACTIVE AND VERY ENERGY EFFICIENT. WE ARE NOW WORKING WITH SEVERAL MUNICIPALITIES, NONPROFITS, AND LANDOWNERS TO INSTALL DEMONSTRATION UNITS. OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO SEE THESE DEMONSTRATION UNITS IN PLACE AND THEN BEGIN TO PROMOTE THESE HOMES AS ATTRACTIVE AND AFFORDABLE OPTIONS FOR LOWER COST HOUSING IN OUR AREA.
