St. Bartholomew's conservancy, inc., an independent, 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation, works to restore and preserve the historic character and architectural significance of the landmark st. Bartholomew's site (church, community house and gardens) in the city of new york. Its mission is to raise funds necessary to restore, preserve and maintain the building exteriors and gardens of the st. Bartholomew's site as a gift to the city and to the nation, and in so doing, to broaden public awareness of the importance of historic preservation in the urban environment.
The conservancy raises funds for the restoration and preservation of the st. Bartholomew's site.

“The by-laws were amended in 2015 to bring them into compliance with the new york nonprofit revitalization act of 2013, which took effect on january 1, 2015. The amended by-laws reflect the following changes: article iv, section 15 - the conservancy developed the following committees: (a) executive committee, who shall have the authority to approve compensation for the corporations employees and act as an advisory to the president. (b) audit committee, who shall review the annual financial statements, oversee policies and programs on legal and tax compliance, internal controls and ethical conduct. Addition of article xii, dissolution: in the event of dissolution of the corporation, its property and other assets, including all its right in and to its own publications, shall be distributed to an institution or institutions designated by the board which has of have functions and objectives as closely related to those of the conservancy. Addition of a conflict of interest policy, records retention schedule and whistleblower policy.”

When the form 990 has been prepared, reviewed by the treasurer and is ready to be filed with the internal revenue service, it is electronically sent to the board members of the organization for their review.”
“The conflict of interest policy of st. Bartholomew's conservancy, inc. (the "corporation") is applicable to all directors, officers, employees, and others who have the ability to exercise substantial influence over the corporation. The designated audit committee of the board, oversees the adoption of, implementation of, and compliance with this conflict of interest policy. If a potential conflict were to arise, the interested person must disclose all material facts to the board of directors of the audit committee, in a written statement or orally at a meeting of the board, provided such oral disclosure is documented in the minutes of the meeting. The interested person is precluded from being present at or participating in any board or committee deliberation or vote related to the transaction or arrangement, giving rise to a conflict of interest. After the interested persons disclosure of the existence of and all material facts, the audit committee shall discuss and make a recommendation to the board as to each of the determinations required. All actual or possible conflicts of interest are documented in the minutes of the board meeting at which such determinations are made. Each member of the board, officer, member of a committee with powers delegated by the board of directors and key employee shall annually submit to the chair of the audit committee the written statement disclosing the existence of any potential or actual conflict of interests. The last time this process took place was 11/18/15, but as individuals are brought on the board, they must sign at that time.”

OUR MISSION IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR RESTORING AND PRESERVING THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S SITE (CHURCH, COMMUNITY HOUSE AND GARDENS), NEWLY DESIGNATED AS A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK THROUGH THE SPECIFIC EFFORTS OF THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CONSERVANCY. ADDITIONALLY, WE WORK TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION IN THE URBAN LANDSCAPE BY ENGAGING THE LOCAL CITIZENRY THROUGH PROGRAMS AND PUBLICATIONS. LITERALLY, TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VISITORS FROM NEW YORK, FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY, AND FROM ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD, VISIT THIS ARCHITECTURAL TREASURE.WHILE THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1992 AS THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S PRESERVATION FOUNDATION, IN 2011, IT WAS LEGALLY RENAMED THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CONSERVANCY, BROADENED ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND BEGAN WIDENING THE SCOPE AND BREADTH OF POTENTIAL DONORS. A FULL-TIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WAS HIRED IN NOVEMBER 2014. IN 2015, THROUGH AN AGREEMENT WITH ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH, THE CONSERVANCY TOOK THE LEAD IN RAISING FUNDS FOR THE RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION OF THE EXTERIOR OF THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S SITE. DURING 2015 AND IN THE FOUR YEARS PRECEDING, THE CONSERVANCY'S DONOR BASE INCLUDED 51 INDIVIDUALS, 7 CORPORATIONS, AND 10 FOUNDATIONS WITH GIFTS AND GRANTS RANGING FROM SMALL TO LARGE. FOR OPERATIONS, CONTRIBUTIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS TYPICALLY RANGE FROM $500 TO $1,000, ALBEIT SOME ARE LOWER AND OTHERS CONSIDERABLY HIGHER. AS OUTREACH AND PUBLICITY FOR OUR WORK INCREASES, WE EXPECT THIS DONOR BASE TO GROW SUBSTANTIALLY. THESE SUPPORTERS GIVE BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT AND RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND RESPECT THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK. BECAUSE OUR MISSION ENTAILS RAISING LARGE SUMS FOR THE VERY SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF RESTORATION OF THE HISTORIC ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH AND COMMUNITY HOUSE BUILDINGS AND GARDENS THAT ARE ENJOYED WIDELY BY THE PUBLIC AT LARGE, IT IS NECESSARY TO SOLICIT SIZEABLE GRANTS WHERE POSSIBLE, IN ADDITION TO THE SMALLER GIFTS WE RECEIVE FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. IN 2015, FOR EXAMPLE, WE RECEIVED A $1,000,000 PLEDGE FROM A FOUNDATION TO FUND A SIGNIFICANT COST RESTORATION PROJECT. THIS GIFT WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL IN TERMS OF THE AMOUNT, WAS UNEXPECTED FROM A FOUNDATION THAT HAS NEVER PREVIOUSLY GIVEN TO THE CONSERVANCY, AND WITH WHICH THERE IS NO CLOSE RELATIONSHIP. THE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CONSERVANCY BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS COMPRISED OF SIXTEEN INDIVIDUALS FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WITH WIDELY VARYING BACKGROUNDS WHO ARE KEENLY INTERESTED IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION, IN SUPPORTING THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION, AND WHO CARE ABOUT ITS SUCCESS IN MEETING THE GOALS OF ITS MISSION. THE SECTORS REPRESENTED BY THE BOARD INCLUDE ARCHITECTURE, ARTS AND PRESERVATION, FINANCIAL, LEGAL, MARKETING, NEW YORK CITY PHILANTHROPY, AND REAL ESTATE. (B) AUDIT COMMITTEE, WHO SHALL REVIEW THE ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, OVERSEE POLICIES AND PROGRAMS ON LEGAL AND TAX COMPLIANCE, INTERNAL CONTROLS AND ETHICAL CONDUCT. ADDITION OF ARTICLE XII, DISSOLUTION: IN THE EVENT OF DISSOLUTION OF THE CORPORATION, ITS PROPERTY AND OTHER ASSETS, INCLUDING ALL ITS RIGHT IN AND TO ITS OWN PUBLICATIONS, SHALL BE DISTRIBUTED TO AN INSTITUTION OR INSTITUTIONS DESIGNATED BY THE BOARD WHICH HAS OF HAVE FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES AS CLOSELY RELATED TO THOSE OF THE CONSERVANCY.
