Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Job path supports people with autism and other developmental disabilities as they make choices about their lives and play valued roles in their communities. Job path encourages people to explore what they want out of life and to chart their own journeys. Whether it's finding a job, contributing as a volunteer, establishing a home, or joining a community group, the goal is to assist people to lead full and active lives. In other words, to lead the same kind of life everyone wants.

Job path supports people with developmental disabilities in their efforts to make choices about their lives. We help people find jobs and establish careers, live in their own homes and participate in community life. Job path strives to be a reflective organization where staff listen carefully to the people they support and thoughtfully consider how to do their work.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Job path, inc. Has its form 990 prepared by an outside accounting firm and has established the following review process to ensure that the information reported is complete and accurate. When the form 990 has been prepared, reviewed by management and is ready to be filed with the internal revenue service, it is electronically sent to the director of finance of the organization. The director of finance will then electronically send the completed draft to each of the members of the finance committee. The committee will review and provide comments and any suggested changes. After making any changes required after review by the finance committee, the form 990 will be sent to each member of the board of trustees at least five business days before filing the form 990.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

If a board member believes that they have a conflict, they must disclose it to the board chair, which will be reflected in the minutes of the board meeting. A person who has a conflict of interest shall not participate in the board's or committee's discussion of the matter except to disclose material facts and to respond to questions. A vote will then take place among the disinterested board members to determine if the organization should proceed with the arrangement. If a key employee has a conflict of interest, they shall disclose this conflict to the executive director and the board chair, and appropriate measures will be taken.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

In advance of the review of compensation by the job path board of trustees, job path's compliance officer prepared a review of the total remuneration provided to executive director. The review included the use of guidestar to select comparable organizations (by source and amount of revenue, mission and geographic location) and the review of the most recent forms 990 filed by these organizations. The compliance officer reviewed the job path form 990 and also reviewed all components of the remuneration provided to the four job path executives. In addition, the compliance officer compared compensation and benefits information from these reports: new york city area nonprofits salary survey report 2013-2014 by professionals for nonprofits and 2013 charity ceo compensation study by charity navigator. This review was independent of any job path staff and was provided directly to the board of trustees. The board reviewed the report at a meeting held on june 18, 2014 which was documented in minutes for the meeting. The board accepted and determined, based on the review, that the compensation for all top managers at job path was reasonable.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its form 990 available for public inspection as required under section 6104 of the internal revenue code by posting it on guidestar.org and other similar types of websites. In addition, the financial statements, conflict of interest policy, articles of incorporation and by-laws are also available upon written request at 22 west 38th street, new york, ny 10018...or by calling the organization directly at (212)944-0564.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0JOB PATH WAS ESTABLISHED IN THE WAKE OF THE WILLOWBROOK CONSENT DECREE, WHEN NEW YORK STATE WAS MOVING PEOPLE FROM INSTITUTIONS INTO GROUP HOMES IN THE COMMUNITY AND ESTABLISHING DAY PROGRAMS SO THAT THEY COULD PARTICIPATE IN MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES. JOB PATH WAS INTENDED TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE TO THESE DAY PROGRAMS BY HELPING PEOPLE SPEND THEIR DAYS IN THE SAME WAY THEIR NEW NEIGHBORS DID: IN THE WORKFORCE. SINCE THAT TIME WE HAVE HELPED MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE BECOME EMPLOYEES OF BUSINESSES ACROSS NEW YORK CITY"CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT" TECHNIQUES PROVIDE THE FOUNDATION OF OUR WORK. THESE TECHNIQUES ENABLE US TO PINPOINT THE SKILLS EVEN PEOPLE WITH THE MOST SEVERE DISABILITIES BRING TO THE WORKFORCE AND WORK WITH EMPLOYERS TO CREATE JOBS THAT WORK FOR BOTH THE BUSINESS AND THE JOB SEEKER. THE STRATEGIES ARE EFFECTIVE: WE PLACE 85% OF OUR ENROLLEES IN EMPLOYMENT AND 75% RETAIN THE JOBS FOR A YEAR OR LONGER. OUR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH ABOUT 135 INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE IN THE JOB DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AND SUPPORT CLOSE TO 150 WHO ARE EMPLOYED. FORTY-FOUR PEOPLE STARTED NEW JOBS THIS PAST YEAR. WE HAVE A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON ASSISTING YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE GRADUATING FROM SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS.WE ARE PARTICULARLY PLEASED TO WORK WITH A GROWING NUMBER OF EMPLOYERS WHO ARE "RETURN CUSTOMERS," EMPLOYING TWO OR MORE PEOPLE FROM JOB PATH. BED BATH AND BEYOND IS A GOOD EXAMPLE. THEY ARE THE EMPLOYER OF NINE INDIVIDUALS. FIRST RESIDENTIAL, A REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT COMPANY IS ANOTHER. THEY EMPLOY FIVE. OUR CONSORTIUM FOR CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT (CCE) IS DEDICATED TO CREATING A NETWORK OF THESE EMPLOYERS, WHICH CURRENTLY NUMBER 18. THE CCE ALSO HAS HELPED A GROUP OF 11 AGENCIES LEARN CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT STRATEGIES. THIS GROUP NOW SERVES AS A SOURCE OF CANDIDATES FOR BUSINESSES IN THE CCE NETWORK.
