Mission

Hope ("help our people eat") community services is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization serving the people of new rochelle and surrounding communities, within a spiritual, ecumenical dimension. Hope community services provided:- a warm, inviting atmosphere of personal and respectful service to the disadvantaged of this community for the needs of body, mind, heart, and spirit.hope community services challenged its clients to achieve:- personal responsibility- healthy self-sufficiency- a fuller appreciation of their dignity and self-worth- recognition of the interdependence of themselves and others.hope community services provided its services in an unbiased and non-discriminatory manner.

See schedule oour community outreach/self sufficiency program offers walk-in crisis intervention, problem solving and referrals mon., tues., wed., and fri., 10 am to 4 pm, helping low-income families and individuals access entitlements, find jobs, obtain health care and substance abuse treatment.our community outreach/self-sufficiency program will engage 298 low income households: help 100 people to become citizens through our citizenship classes, and hold two sessions per month of the mothers' empowerment group. Through community outreach we will add 15 new members to the group, refer 67 people to medical, mental health or substance abuse treatment, and help 50 families obtain food stamps. We will refer all clients to our soup kitchen and food pantry, and if needed to our hopwa program, the learning center, boces, legal services of hudson valley, st. Vincent's hospital crisis intervention team and dss. Our goal is to provide a venue where clients can come to solve problems of daily living, and help low income households move toward self-sufficiency through job training and employment, permanent housing, education, and referrals to needed services both private and government agencies.we collaborate with the guidance center, westcop, st. Vincent's hospital, soundshore hospital, the hispanic advisory council, new rochelle council of community services, catholic charities, legal services of hudson valley, new york covenant church, the westchester coalition for the hungry and homeless, the bridge fund, grace church community services, westchester residential opportunities, inc, and the westchester department of social services.

See schedule oour soup kitchen is open every tuesday, wednesday, friday and the last two mondays of each month, 52 weeks of the year. Our soup kitchen provided 14,362 meals during 2012. Some of these meals were extra take-out meals we provide at the end of each meal. We also serve special holiday dinners on thanksgiving, christmas, easter, cinco de mayo and fourth of july. Our soup kitchen is our primary outreach tool. People who have no kitchen facilities, lack the ability to cook or do not have food to prepare use our soup kitchen as their main source of nutrition. Our soup kitchen serves many people with chemical dependency and mental health issues. We also serve day laborers, the elderly and families with children.our soup kitchen serves as a tool for helping residents stretch their food dollars and thus be able to secure and maintain permanent housing. Our goal is to help low income residents maintain adequate nutrition and provide a point of entry to supportive services. The soup kitchen also provides a safe space for homeless clients and run-away youth, and provides a place for our senior citizens who live alone to interact. Clients will receive adequate food to sustain themselves and their families. For many their nutrition will improve by access to fresh fruit and vegetables as well as dairy products for their children. Clients will also obtain information about other services available to them and be able to take advantage of free flu shots and health screening fairs. Additionally many will become part of the hope community and feel a sense of community support.

IRS990/MissionDescription0OUR FOOD PANTRY'S GOALS ARE TO HELP LOW INCOME RESIDENTS MAINTAIN ADEQUATE NUTRITION, AVOID BEING FORCED TO USE RENT MONEY FOR FOOD THUS AVOIDING HOMELESSNESS, AND PROVIDE ACCESS TO SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE BETTER NOURISHED, HAVE BETTER HEALTH, AND BE LESS LIKELY TO BECOME HOMELESS.HOPE'S SOUP KITCHEN ALSO PROVIDES A SAFE SPACE FOR HOMELESS CLIENTS AND A PLACE FOR MANY OF OUR SENIOR CITIZENS WHO LIVE ALONE TO SOCIALLY INTERACT. WE ALSO PROVIDE A SAFE SPACE TO THE MANY DAY WORKERS IN NEW ROCHELLE. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT.
