Mission

Pact enables systemic solutions that allow those who are poor and marginalized to earn a dignified living, be healthy, and take part in the benefits that nature provides. (continued in schedule o)

Major Activities

Activity 2
President's emergency plan for aids relief (pepfar)program accomplishments: pact facilitated the efficient flow of grant funds during the rapid scale-up of the pepfar south africa program since 2004.results achieved in key program areas are as follows: -treatment: partners under this program started 19,606 people living with hiv/aids on anti-retroviral therapy (art) and are supporting 177,570 people with hiv/aids who are currently receiving art. Accredited in-service training during the year included training of 308 individuals (39 doctors, 181 nurses and 36 pharmacists) on various aspects of care. Forty-three trained nurses were provided with mentoring support. -hiv, tb care and support: partners under this program reached 74,434 infected individuals with community-based care and support services. An additional 21,227 individuals received facility-based care. -orphaned and vulnerable children: partners under this program reached 115,893 children with child protection, educational support and/or psychological care and support services. 60 individuals received training in various units of the child and youth care worker curriculum. -hiv counseling and testing: partners under this program tested and provided test results and counseling to 148,896 individuals. -prevention of mother to child transmission (pmtct): partners under this program provided counseling and testing, as well as test results to 48,458 pregnant women and initiated a course of art to 21,347 women. 32 individuals were trained in pmtct, including six doctors and seven nurses.
Activity 3
Shae thot: the way forwardfunded through usaid's humanitarian assistance mechanism, the shae thot program offers an integrated community development service-delivery model that depends on the participation of communities to build capacity for decision making and longer-term planning. Shae thot partners have demonstrated that working through grassroots entities, such as village committees, achieves efficient and effective development while empowering villagers to have a stronger voice in local decision-making processes and building linkages to emerging local governance systems. Pact has also begun plans to integrate the experiences and priorities of local organizations towards building community resiliency while creating a rich network of capacitated local groups working towards self-articulated goals.shae thot partners are currently active in 1,159 villages across 19 townships in the dry zone, rangoon and kayah state, and have implemented activities in nearly 1,710 villages. Program accomplishments during the year: -improved maternal, newborn and child health -training: 147,795 community members have been trained in child health and nutrition, along with 2,152 health workers and volunteers; -access to healthcare resources: 32,464 people received health services through a mobile clinic, including 11,081 children; -access to family planning resources: 22,903 people received family planning services from mobile clinics; -more women-focused anc intervention: 5,350 pregnant women received anc from mobile clinics; 558 women received four or more anc visits during their last pregnancy; 1,903 women received two tetanus shots during their last pregnancy; -more women delivered with at least a trained birth attendant: 1,043 women gave birth with a skilled birth attendant during their last pregnancy; -improved nutrition for children: 9,685 children's growth was tracked through community weighing days; -improved prevention of childhood diseases: 765 cases of diarrhea among children under five were treated effectively. -improved household level food security -training: 10,548 individuals received usg-supported short-term agricultural sector productivity or food security training; 35,769 individuals received financial literacy training; -increased access to fair financial services: $3,641,673 in agricultural and rural loans disbursed through microcredit organizations and $656,664 disbursed through savings groups; 66,701 individuals benefitted from financial services provided through us government-assisted financial intermediaries; -increased income and household assets: participants in savings groups earned $47,017 in interest income; -expanded use of more effective agricultural techniques and inputs: 1,836 hectares of land are under improved technologies or management practices as a result of program assistance; 8,355 farmers and others have applied new technologies or management practices as a result of the program.-increased access to sufficient quantities of water, potable water and improved hygiene -942 community-based water systems have been built or renovated; -52,225 household safe water systems have been distributed; -280,370 people reside in the area with improved access to safe drinking water supply as a result of us government assistance; -16,406 improved sanitation facilities built or reconstructed; 82,956 people gained access to improved sanitation facility.-strengthened social and community institutions for development -787 village committees were supported by us government funds, along with 7,627 village sub-groups; -852 community organizations have village development plans.

THE PROGRAM TARGETS HIGH HIV PREVALENCE IN URBAN AND PERI-URBAN AREAS IN ETHIOPIA TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY HIV AND AIDS - WHO OFTEN ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE - ARE APPROPRIATELY TARGETED AND SUPPORTED. YEKOKEB BERHAN TAKES A FAMILY-CENTERED AND SYSTEMS-DEVELOPMENT APPROACH TO ITS SERVICE DELIVERY, RECOGNIZING THE FACT THAT THE WELL-BEING OF A CHILD DEPENDS ON THE WELL-BEING OF OTHER HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS. HVC AND THEIR FAMILIES RECEIVE AGE-APPROPRIATE, INCLUSIVE SERVICES, AND CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS AND DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THEIR LIVES. SYSTEMATIC MONITORING, EVALUATION, FEEDBACK AND LEARNING MECHANISMS APPLIED TO GENERATE EVIDENCE THAT INFORMS PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION AND POLICY DISCUSSIONS. PACT IS WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A WIDE RANGE OF GOVERNMENT AND CIVIL SOCIETY PARTNERS TO ROLL OUT NATIONAL QUALITY FRAMEWORKS FOR SERVICE DELIVERY AND CAPACITY STRENGTHENING TO SUSTAIN PROGRAM SERVICES AND IMPACTS.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OVER THE PAST YEAR INCLUDE: -YEKOKEB BERHAN PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE AND NEED-BASED CARE AND SUPPORT TO 775,155 (337,889 MALE AND 437,266 FEMALE) CHILDREN AND ADULTS. THE PROGRAM EXCEEDED ITS TARGET OF 500,000 HVC EXPECTED TO BE SERVED EACH YEAR. SPECIFICALLY, 537,402 (269,068 MALE AND 268,334 FEMALE) HVC WERE PROVIDED WITH AT LEAST ONE CARE SERVICE - MOST CHILDREN RECEIVED THREE AND MORE SERVICES. -THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE HVC IN THE YEKOKEB BERHAN DATA MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD WAS 510,948. DURING THE YEAR, 64,026 CHILDREN GRADUATED OR TRANSITIONED OUT OF THE PROGRAM AND 74,173 NEW HVC WERE ENROLLED IN IT. -DURING THE YEAR, THE PROGRAM RAPIDLY EXPANDED TRAINING SUPPORT AND SERVICES REACHING 42,898 CAREGIVERS, BENEFITING A TOTAL OF 123,717 BENEFICIARIES. AT LEAST 29,817 (3,444 MALE AND 26,373 FEMALE) CAREGIVERS WERE SUPPORTED TO ESTABLISH 1,601 COMMUNITY SELF-HELP SAVING GROUPS (CSSG), AND 309 (302 MALE AND 7 FEMALE) MEMBERS FORMED 18 SAVING AND CREDIT (SAC) COOPERATIVES. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF SAVINGS MOBILIZED BY THE CSSG AND SAC GROUPS DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD WAS BIRR 9,884,704 ($534,308) AND BIRR 439,048 ($23,732),RESPECTIVELY. -A TOTAL OF 73,300 (36,297 MALE AND 37,003 FEMALE) HVC AND 15,802 (3,520 MALE AND 12,282 FEMALE) ADULTS RECEIVED VARIOUS SERVICES THROUGH REFERRALS. -EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT IS AN IMPORTANT PROGRAMMING ASPECT OF YEKOKEB BERHAN. AT LEAST 36 COMMUNITY-BASED AND GOVERNMENT OWNED ECD CENTERS WERE SUPPORTED AND STRENGTHENED THROUGH VARIOUS INITIATIVES, INCLUDING THE DELIVERY OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR PLAYING FACILITIES, TRAINING AND ON-SITE TECHNICAL SUPPORT. ECD TRAINING WAS PROVIDED TO 230 (126 MALE AND 104 FEMALE) ECD TEACHERS AND STAFF AND 23,682 (11,870 MALE AND 11,812 FEMALE) HVC BENEFITTED FROM THESE CENTERS.-PARTNERSHIP WITH AND CAPACITY OF GOVERNMENT PARTNERS WERE STRENGTHENED, EXTENDING TECHNICAL AND MATERIAL SUPPORT TO FIVE REGIONAL BUREAUS OF WOMEN, CHILDREN AND YOUTH AFFAIRS (BOWCYA) OFFICES. IN ADDITION TO TRAINING STAFF FROM THESE REGIONS, EACH BOWCYA OFFICE RECEIVED TWO LAPTOP COMPUTERS, TWO OFFICE DESKS AND CHAIRS, TWO FILING SHELVES AND A RANGE OF STATIONERY MATERIALS. ADDITIONALLY, IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS SUPPORTED 114 WOREDA BOWCYA OFFICES DIRECTLY, PROVIDING 124 COMPUTERS, 41 PRINTERS, 26 BOOK SHELVES, 38 OFFICE DESKS, 18 CHAIRS AND SIX FILING CABINETS.-REVIEW MEETINGS ARE IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITIES TO MONITOR PROGRESS, ADDRESS GAPS AND ISSUE NEW GUIDANCE. TEN QUARTERLY REGIONAL REVIEW MEETINGS WERE CONDUCTED IN THE FIVE CLUSTER REGIONS, WHICH PROMOTED CLOSER CONSULTATION WITH IPS AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENT OFFICES, EXPERIENCE SHARING AND FEEDBACK.
