Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Mill neck services' primary mission is to provide vocational, habilitation and interpreting services to people who are deaf, late deafened, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and hearing. Many of the people mill neck services also have developmental disabilities along with varying degrees of hearing loss. During the past year, mill neck has expanded the spectrum of services provided to include hearing children and adults with developmental disabilities. Mill neck provides sign language interpreters in medical, educational, legal, political, spiritual and emergency situations to facilitate communication between deaf-hearing communities; and provides individualized employment and habilitation support to people.

To support and advocate for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened and/or developmentally disabled to foster opportunities for employment, inclusion, habilitation and social change.

Individual board members review the document and respond to the executive director with comments, questions, or proposed revisions. During the year ended december 31, 2020, the organization recorded an adjustment to net assets/(deficit) as of january 1, 2019 of $1,338,730 to recrod its other post-employment benefits obligation liability. In addition, the organization recorded additional employee benefits expense of $530,947 for the year ended december 31, 2019 representing the service cost, interest expense, and actuarial loss related to the amortization of the prior year's discount and changes in the life expectancy estimates throughout the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Mill neck services is a non-profit corporation exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. In addition, mill neck services has been classified as an entity that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) and qualifies for deductible contributions as provided in section 170(b)(i)(a)(vi). Accordingly, no provision has been made for income taxes in the financial statements. Mill neck services evaluated its activities for uncertain tax positions and has determined that there were no uncertain tax positions for 2020 and 2019. Mill neck services files an irs form 990 and respective state and local tax returns. These tax returns are subject to review and examination by federal, state, and local authorities. Mill neck services has determined that it has registered in all states where it is required to be registered.

MILL NECK PROVIDES SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS IN MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL, LEGAL, POLITICAL, SPIRITUAL AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS TO FACILITATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN DEAF-HEARING COMMUNITIES; AND PROVIDES INDIVIDUALIZED EMPLOYMENT AND HABILITATION SUPPORT TO PEOPLE.

THIS SERVICE COMBINES ACTIVE PAID EMPLOYMENT WITH INTENSIVE JOB COACHING TO ENABLE THE CONSUMER TO MAINTAIN PART OR FULL TIME WORK. DURING THE INTENSIVE PHASE, A PERSON'S JOB COACH GUIDES THE NEW EMPLOYEE THROUGH CRUCIAL LEARNING PHASE OF A NEW JOB WHILE ENSURING THE EMPLOYER THAT WORK WILL BE SATISFACTORILY PERFORMED. IN 2010, ISS WAS REDESIGNED TO CONSIST OF A HOUSING SUBSIDY CALCULATED BASED ON AN INDIVIDUAL'S INCOME AND HOUSING AND COMMUNITY RENEWAL (HCR) PAYMENT STANDARDS.
