Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Elderhouse promotes the health and wellbeing of aging adults through a holistic medical model adult day program led by a passionate team of therapeutic recreation professionals, health aides, and nurses specially trained to support the unique needs of each individual. At the center, we foster an environment of inclusivity and enrichment through activities centered on celebrating personal successes. We ensure safety through personal attention and dependable door-to-door transportation. We build trust with families, offering caregivers respite from caregiving duties and peace of mind knowing their loved ones are in our care.

No other norwalk based program provides area residents with a broad range of comprehensive care services specific to meet the needs of older frail adults and their caregivers. Elderhouse distinguishes itself from other not-for profit organizations in the following ways: (1) a leader in the field of senior care, (2) exceptional staff tenure, qualifying elderhouse as one of the most highly competent providers of care, (3) commitment to offer the highest quality care at the most affordable rates, including a daily rate inclusive of all services and a sliding fee scale for lower income seniors, and (4) a good investment for donors with 85% of each dollar raised allocated directly to client services.

IN TURN, FAMILY CAREGIVERS BENEFIT FROM HOURS OF RELIABLE RESPITE, CAREGIVER COUNSELING AND GROUP SUPPORT. THE COMBINATION OF A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE CARE ENVIRONMENT FOR SENIORS AND RESPITE FOR CAREGIVERS, LEADS TO A HIGHER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR BOTH. YEAR AFTER YEAR, ELDERHOUSE HAS ACCOMPLISHED 3 MAJOR OBJECTIVES: (1) TO KEEP FRAIL OLDER ADULTS LIVING IN THEIR HOMES, HEALTHIER AND LONGER, (2) TO REDUCE THE RATE OF EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS AND HOSPITAL READMISSIONS, AND (3) TO INCREASE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR FRAIL OLDER ADULTS TO PARTAKE IN MEANINGFUL SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT.
