IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0ARTS & CULTURAL PROGRAMS- ARTS IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE VEHICLES TO ENGAGE TEENS AND THE COMMUNITY. IT BRIDGES DIFFERENCES AND CREATE COMMON SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER. AS A RESULT, HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE HAS A WIDE ARRAY OF ARTS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS THAT SERVE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS EACH YEAR. RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF A QUALITY EDUCATION AS A WAY TO IMPROVE LIVES, HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE HAS HELPED TO CREATE MULTIPLE INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS (BPS) AS A WAY TO BETTER ENGAGE STUDENTS. WE DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED A STUDENT-CENTERED CURRICULUM THAT ENCOURAGES POSITIVE SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH CIVIC PARTICIPATION AND ARTS EDUCATION. FROM DAILY IN-SCHOOL AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION TO WORKING WITH BPS OFFICIALS TO CREATE SOLUTIONS AIMED AT ELIMINATED BARRIERS THAT PREVENT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE HAS TAKEN THE LEAD IN MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS ARE AT THE CENTER OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION TO OUR IN-SCHOOL WORK, HSTF YOUTH CAN BE FOUND TEACHING AFRO-LATIN DANCE AND MUSIC IN LOCAL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AND PUTTING ON THEATRICAL PERFORMANCES TO ENCOURAGE THE LOVE FOR READING. OVER 100 TEENS ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY BUILDING THROUGH ARTS AND IN RETURN, THEY BECOME MORE CONFIDENT AND SUCCESSFUL INDIVIDUALS. FINALLY, WE HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPANDING OUR REACH THROUGH OUR MUSIC PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY. WEEKLY, CHILDREN AND TEENS OF DIFFERENT AGES CAN TAKE FREE MUSIC LESSONS AT HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE. WE SERVE AS A RESOURCE TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE FAMILIES WHO OFTEN OTHERWISE CANNOT AFFORD MUSIC LESSONS.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0LIFELONG LEARNING- OUR YOUTH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MODEL TARGETS SOME OF THE HIGHER RISK TEENS IN THE CITY. UNDERPERFORMING IN SCHOOL AND DISENGAGED FROM THEIR COMMUNITY, HSTF TEENS NEED SUPPORT IN MANY WAYS, AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IS ONE OF THEM. THROUGH INTENSIVE AND INTENTIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING AND MENTORING, THE TEENS RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT RANGING FROM TUTORING TO ACADEMIC REMEDIATION. ALL WITH THE GOAL OF SIGNIFICANT ACADEMIC IMPROVEMENT OF ALL TEENS. ADDITIONALLY, ALL TEENS RECEIVE SUPPORT IN COLLEGE EXPLORATION FROM 9TH GRADE THROUGH COLLEGE GRADUATION. WITH A CAREFULLY PLANNED CURRICULUM TAILORED TO THE NEEDS OF THE TEENS, AND ONCE AGAIN, INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT FROM TRANSITIONAL COACHES WHO WORK WITH STUDENTS DURING THE TIME THEY ARE IN COLLEGE, WE HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL TO NOT ONLY GETTING OUR TEENS INTO COLLEGE, BUT HELPING THEM GRADUATE AT A RATE THAT IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE CITY AVERAGE.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE WORKS TO FULFILL THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY BY MAKING HIGH QUALITY ARTS, CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND HEALTH PROGRAMS RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES, AS WELL AS TO OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS. ADDITIONALLY, HSTF PROVIDES YEAR ROUND OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH EVENTS. ANNUAL EVENTS INCLUDE THE NEIGHBORHOOD 5K RUN/WALK, A RUN/WALK TO PROMOTE HEALTHY ACTIVITY FOLLOWED BY A SMALL STREET FESTIVAL WITH MUSIC AND FOOD; SUMMER NIGHTS OUT, A FIVE-PART SERIES OF FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS FEATURING LIVE MUSIC, YOUTH PERFORMANCES AND WORKSHOPS; AND THE THREE KINGS FESTIVAL, A WINTER CELEBRATION OF LATIN-AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS - FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS, HSTF HAS OFFERED PROGRAMMING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL SCHOOLS. FROM IN-SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS TO SUMMER PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE ACADEMICALLY BEHIND, HSTF WORKS TO FILL IN THE GAP AT THESE INSTITUTIONS THAT OFTEN LACK NECESSARY RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS. PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS HELP US EXPAND OUR REACH AND PROVIDE MORE CHILDREN AND TEENS WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN AND ENGAGE IN POSITIVE ACTIVITIES. A GOOD EXAMPLE IS ONE OF HSTF'S YOUTH LEADERSHIP TEAMS, THE YOUTH LITERACY THEATER TROUPE (FORMERLY YOUTH LITERACY TUTORS). YLT'S PROMOTES LITERACY AND THE LOVE OF READING AMONG MORE THAN A HUNDRED NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH THROUGH PARTICIPATORY SKITS ADAPTED FROM SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY-RELEVANT CHILDREN'S BOOKS. THEY BRING THESE ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS TO SCHOOLS AND OTHER COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc2ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - HSTF EMPLOYS MORE THAN 100 TEENS EACH YEAR THROUGH INITIATIVES SUCH AS OUR HEALTH CAREERS AMBASSADORS PROGRAM, OR HCAP. THROUGH THIS COMPREHENSIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHERN JAMAICA PLAIN HEALTH CENTER, A TEAM OF YOUTH DEVELOP JOB SKILLS AND GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AS HEALTH EDUCATORS, FOCUSING ON TOPICS RELATED TO URBAN HEALTH ISSUES. THROUGH PROGRAMS LIKE HCAP, NOT ONLY ARE WE PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THEIR FUTURE, WE ARE ALSO CULTIVATING THE NEXT GENERATIONS OF CIVICALLY ENGAGE WORKERS IN THIS EVER CHANGING WORK FORCE CLIMATE.
