IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0ARTS & CULTURAL PROGRAMS - ART IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE VEHICLES TO ENGAGE TEENS AND THE COMMUNITY. IT BRIDGES DIFFERENCES AND CREATES COMMON SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER. HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE HAS A WIDE ARRAY OF ARTS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS THAT SERVE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS EACH YEAR. RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF A QUALITY ARTS EDUCATION AS A WAY TO IMPROVE LIVES, HYDE SQUARE TASK FORCE HAS HELPED TO CREATE MULTIPLE INNOVATIVE YOUTH ARTS MASTERY PROGRAMS, AND DEVELOPED ARTS-BASED PARTNERSHIPS WITH BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS (BPS) AS A WAY TO BETTER ENGAGE STUDENTS. EVERY YEAR, 100 TEENS PARTICIPATE IN OUR YEAR-LONG MUSIC, DANCE, AND THEATER PROGRAMMING, WHERE THEY MASTER CULTURALLY RELEVANT ARTS FORMS AND THEN USE THESE SKILLS TO LEAD WORKSHOPS AND INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCES THROUGHOUT THE CITY. IN ADDITION, OUR LEARN THRU DANCE PROGRAM ENGAGES HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS OF ALL AGES IN REGULAR, IN-SCHOOL LATIN DANCE CLASSES. FINALLY, WE HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPANDING OUR REACH THROUGH OUR MUSIC PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY. CHILDREN AND TEENS OF DIFFERENT AGES CAN TAKE FREE, ONE-ON-ONE MUSIC LESSONS AT HSTF. WE SERVE AS A RESOURCE TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE FAMILIES WHO OFTEN OTHERWISE CANNOT AFFORD MUSIC LESSONS.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0LIFELONG LEARNING- OUR YOUTH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MODEL TARGETS SOME OF THE HIGHER RISK TEENS IN THE CITY. UNDERPERFORMING IN SCHOOL AND DISENGAGED FROM THEIR COMMUNITY, HSTF TEENS NEED SUPPORT IN MANY WAYS, AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IS ONE OF THEM. THROUGH INTENSIVE AND INTENTIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING AND MENTORING, THE TEENS RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT RANGING FROM TUTORING, TO STANDARDIZED TEST PREPARATION, TO HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS EXPLORING A VARIETY OF CAREERS. IN ADDITION, ALL TEENS RECEIVE SUPPORT IN COLLEGE EXPLORATION, PREPARATION, AND SUCCESS, FROM 9TH GRADE THROUGH COLLEGE GRADUATION. WITH A CAREFULLY PLANNED CURRICULUM TAILORED TO THE NEEDS OF THE TEENS AND INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT FROM COACHES WHO WORK WITH STUDENTS DURING THE TIME THEY ARE IN COLLEGE, WE HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL TO NOT ONLY GETTING OUR TEENS INTO COLLEGE, BUT HELPING THEM GRADUATE AT A RATE THAT IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE CITY AVERAGE.
