WHEN DANIEL AND HAYLEY MET FOR COFFEE THE NEXT WEEK, HE TOLD HER SHE HAD A POWERFUL STORY TO TELL, BUT SHE HAD TO DECIDE WHAT ROLE MUSIC PLAYED IN IT-WHETHER IT WAS ESSENTIAL TO THE TELLING OF THE STORY, AND IF SO, HOW. AFTER TOUCHING UP A FEW OF HER SONGS WITH HER, THEY COLLABORATED ON A NEW TUNE IN THE PIECE, "WHAT WOULD JESUS DO," WITH THE HOPES OF CREATING A MUSICAL CENTERPIECE TO TIE TOGETHER THE EVENTS OF ACT I. FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS OF THIS SERIES OF WRITING SESSIONS, THEY'VE BEGUN TO WORK THROUGH THE ENTIRE PLAY NUMBER BY NUMBER, REFORMING EACH SONG, AND ARE EXCITED TO REACH A POINT AT WHICH THEY CAN SHARE THIS NEXT STEP IN THE LIFE OF THE PROJECT WITH AN AUDIENCE. Education sonnet repertory theatre conducted musical theatre and tv/film intensives for acting professionals led by srt's casting associate and telsey + company casting director, karyn casl. Karyn joined telsey + company in 2010, after working as an actor and freelance casting director on the west coast. Karyn is currently casting the signature theatre company season, the atlantic theater company mainstage season and the mcc theater company season. Broadway casting credits include the best man, glengarry glen ross, magic/bird and a streetcar named desire. The team at telsey + company's current broadway casting credits include annie, elf, glengarry glen ross, motown, kinky boots, hands on a hardbody, chaplin, bring it on, newsies, wicked, evita, spider-man: turn off the dark, and rock of ages. Karyn is a member of the casting society of america.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Dawn is a new play with music, steeped in the sounds of the american south. Set in 1978 and based in true events, the play centers around dawn pearce, a fifteen-year-old girl whose parents leave behind everything to follow their deep desire for "more," from life and from god. Dragging their daughters in tow, the family follows the evangelist brother james childress a thousand miles to his isolated community in fredonia, texas, where in the midst of poverty, struggles of faith, and sexual exploitation, dawn's journey leads her to a moment of self-discovery and a battle for self- salvation. The music of dawn is both specific and versatile, gathering inspirations from folk, country, bluegrass, gospel, honky-tonk music halls, and ventriloquism. Somewhere between a traditional american musical-comedy and a play with music, dawn is a tribute to classic american sounds. And though set in 1978, you can hear the characters' influences from classic american country artists like johnny cash, june carter, and loretta lynn. Since dawn's first staged-reading at the emerging artists' new works series in 2014, hayley treider has been rewriting, clarifying her vision, and figuring out how the many theatrical devices this story demands can best fit together. At that first reading, daniel emond was in the audience. While he was deeply moved by the relevant and universal message of the story, as well as the southern soul in the music and sounds of the characters-to him, the music wasn't yet complete. As hayley grappled with whether dawn was truly a musical or a play with music, the orchestrations were needlessly sparse, sometimes leaving the songs feeling unfinished. And while always heartfelt and beautiful, the through line of music in the piece felt disjointed. When daniel and hayley met for coffee the next week, he told her she had a powerful story to tell, but she had to decide what role music played in it-whether it was essential to the telling of the story, and if so, how. Hayley, having grown up steeped in country, folk, and gospel music of her southern roots, felt the characters of dawn, most of whom are based on real-life counterparts, required music to live and justify their very lives, making the story and the music within dawn singular and indivisible. As she wrote the play, the songs had naturally tumbled out of her. With this dialogue began their collaboration as co-composers of the music of dawn. As a bluegrass musician, theatre artist, and lifelong songwriter, daniel knew he had the necessary skills and artistic inclinations to help hayley develop her musical instincts. After touching up a few of her songs with her, they collaborated on a new tune in the piece, "what would jesus do," with the hopes of creating a musical centerpiece to tie together the events of act i. Following the success of this series of writing sessions, they've begun to work through the entire play number by number, reforming each song, and are excited to reach a point at which they can share this next step in the life of the project with an audience. Dawn deals with classic themes and was a perfect fit for sonnet, which took place at the signature theatre company at the pershing square signature center in manhattan.

The other shore is a new musical that follows the rebellious brahmin's son siddhartha on his journey to liberation as penned by the author hermann hesse. Sharing the narrative arc, like a parabolic ballet, there is a seamless flow between hesse's life in 1919 germany and the articulated mythic india of his book siddhartha. Using the writing of the book as medicine to endure his own crisis, the other shore is the deeply personal story of hesse's journey of devotion, suffering, loss and transmutation while articulating a myth from which we can draw inspiration. Siddhartha is one of the best regarded and most widely read books of the twentieth century, contributing to hesse being awarded the nobel prize in 1946. It has been translated into dozens of languages. In the century since its publication, siddhartha has sold tens of millions of copies introducing innumerable people around the world to buddhism and eastern philosophy. The other shore further connects east and west by illuminating the stage with this unifying story and gives modern day seekers an inspirational refuge. Wade mccollum (music, lyrics, and book): recently wade left wicked on broadway to play ernest shackleton in the new musical ernest shackleton loves me for which he garnered the prestigious boston norton award for best actor in a musical. He recently led the broadway tour of priscilla queen of the desert as tick, guest starred as sydney carton opposite clive owen on cinemax/hbo's the knick. Wade is a multi award winning actor/composer/writer and lifelong meditator who has been working on the other shore for several years. His vision is to create art that is of service to humanity, inspiring mutual understanding, peace and love. Sonnet rep produced the first workshop-production of the other shore in 2009, then titled, one. The other shore performed at the classic stage company in manhattan.
