“The audit committee reviews the 990 before it is filed. A mix of compliance and financial information review. In addition, the 990 is made available for every voting board member by placing the document on the trustee website for review.”
“At the beginning of each academic year at first board meeting, the board is presented with questionaire on conflicts. Board reviews completed conflicts & votes whether or not acceptable - conflicted parties unable to vote. Connections to school considered upon 'hiring' new trustee. New trustees are provided copy of conflicted policy as part of orientation and go thru presentation with school council.”

“Leadership summit and several off-campus leadership conferences. A challenge grant from the e.e. Ford foundation (50,000 to support leadership initiatives, awarded in june) will ensure more students have access to format leadership development opportunities. Design thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship equals x learning. The science technology engineering art math (steam) program is on a rapid trajectory under the leadership of our new director, dr. Marco marsoni. Focused on developing pathways for students based on their interests and academic goals the x learning model encourages students to see themselves as innovators capable of matering the kinds of creative problem solving skills that are valued in everything from robots to interdisciplinary teams research and building apps. Notable achievements include upper school ap computer science students participating in a statewide hackathon for the first time and teaching middle school students from the manchester area how to code java as part of the national hour of code initiative. Middle school robotics teams both mad it to the first lego league state championships. Enrollment in steam programs increased over 100% attracting students who did not previously see themselves as "steam types". The class of 2016 distinguished themselves as scholars, athletes and performers. Derryfield is pleased to announce the class included a u.s. Presidential scholar, national merit scholar, national hispanic scholar, and national snowboarding and equestrian champions. Derryfield's first malone scholar is a member of the class and moves to brown university. Many of our athletic teams moved on to state championship status and a record number of musicians were represented in local, regional and state music festivals. As always the campus was infused with a perennial atmosphere of energy and excitement. Derryfield's bright, motivated young people brought passion, confidence and purpose with them each day in fiscal year 2016. The next fiscal year holds even more promise with a continued drive towards individual distinction and collective excellence.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | FISCAL YEAR 2016 WAS MARKED WITH MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS. ACHIEVEMENTS IN MISSION BASED AND STUDENT FOCUSED PROGRAMS WERE AMONG THE BRIGHTEST. DERRYFIELD'S STUDENT LEADERSHIP FOSTERS AN INTENTIONAL AND SUSTAINED ENGAGEMENT FOR THE COMMON GOOD. A WORKING DEFINITION OF LEADERSHIP WAS CREATED THROUGH AN ACTION STEP IN GOAL TWO OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN, LEADING. THIS CALLS FOR THE SCHOOL TO "CULTIVATE INSPIRED, EFFECTIVE AND COMPASSIONATE STUDENT LEADERS COMMITTED TO ENRICHING THEIR WIDER COMMUNITIES." THE GOAL IS TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF EACH OF OUR STUDENTS TO BE A LEADER WHEN CALLED UPON. ALMOST 90 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN FORMAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS INCLUDING DERRYFIELDS' FIRST ANNUAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT AND SEVERAL OFF-CAMPUS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES.
