“The organization's accountants and treasurer review the 990. It is then circulated with the audit and finance committee to review and approve prior to the filing.”
“The organization's directors and officers are required to complete a conflict of interest form annually and disclose whether they are engaged in conflicting activities.”
“Nehi's personnel and compensation committee meets yearly to review and approve the annual budget including salaries of nehi's top management officials. The same process is done with officers and key employees with additional personnel review by the president. The salaries are based on comparable data obtained.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements available to the public upon request.”
“The organization has a committee that assumes responsibility for oversight for the audit of its financial statements and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed during the year.”
“Nehi is a nonprofit corporation as described in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is exempt from federal and state income taxes on trade or business profits generated by activities related to nehi's exempt function. Nehi may be subject to federal and state income taxes for profits generated from trade or business activities unrelated to nehi's exempt function. As of december 31, 2018, management believes that nehi has not generated any unrelated business taxable income. Nehi assesses the recording of uncertain tax positions by evaluating the minimum recognition threshold and measurement requirements a tax position must meet before being recognized as a benefit in the financial statements. Nehi's policy is to recognize interest and penalties accrued on any uncertain tax positions as a component of income tax expense, if any, in its statements of activities. Effective for the year ended december 31, 2018, the tax cuts and jobs act of 2017 (tcja) requires nonprofit organizations to remit taxes on qualifying transportation fringe benefits. During the year ended december 31, 2018, nehi has determined that taxes are owed on qualifying transportation fringe benefits and has accrued taxes in the amount of $4,029, which has been included within accrued expenses on the accompanying statement of financial position.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | HEALTH CARE WITHOUT WALLS: NEHI'S HEALTH CARE WITHOUT WALLS INITIATIVE FOCUSES ON ADVANCING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MORE DISTRIBUTED AND ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, DRAWING ON CURRENT AND FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES. HEALTH CARE WITHOUT WALLS IS PREMISED ON THE NOTION THAT ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY, SUCH AS TELEHEALTH AND REMOTE SENSORS, ARE ALREADY SHIFTING CARE OUTSIDE OF CONVENTIONAL INSTITUTIONAL SETTINGS, INCLUDING HOSPITALS AND PHYSICIANS' OFFICES. COUPLED WITH OTHER INNOVATIONS, SUCH AS A GREATER FOCUS ON POPULATION HEALTH, NEW PAYMENT MODELS, AND AN AUGMENTED HEALTH CARE WORK FORCE, THESE CHANGES COULD BRING HEALTH AND HEALTH CARE CLOSER TO INDIVIDUALS AND ADDRESS THEIR NEEDS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN THE HOME, COMMUNITY, OR WORK PLACE. IN 2018, NEHI WORKED WITH STAKEHOLDERS FROM ACROSS THE HEALTH, HEALTH CARE, AND TECHNOLOGY SECTORS. DIVIDED INTO FIVE WORK STREAMS, THESE STAKEHOLDERS HAVE IDENTIFIED OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE REALMS OF TECHNOLOGY, PAYMENT/REIMBURSEMENT, FEDERAL AND STATE REGULATIONS, HUMAN FACTORS, AND THE HEALTH CARE WORK FORCE. IN OCTOBER 2018, NEHI SUMMARIZED ITS FINDINGS FROM THIS WORK AND PUBLISHED A SEMINAL BOOK CALLED "HEALTH CARE WITHOUT WALLS: A ROADMAP FOR REINVENTING U.S. HEALTH CARE". |
