“The organization is a nonprofit membership corporation incorporated under the laws of the state of hawaii, with the following categories of membership: architect members are individuals admitted to membership with full voting status and privileges. Architect members may also hold the titles fellow and/or emeritus. Voting associate members are individuals admitted with limited voting status and privileges. “Public awareness programs a) seventeenth annual canstruction design build competition - canstruction is a trademark of the society for design administration (sda), working in tandem with the american institute of architects (aia) and other members of the design and construction industry. This honolulu-based event is intended as an annual community service program of the local aia honolulu chapter. Canstruction combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams, led by architects, contractors, and engineers, showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to the hawaii foodbank. B) architecture month -aia honolulu hosts various events throughout one designated month designed to increase public awareness and appreciation for architecture and to foster discussion about the built environment such as: visits to architecture firms, film showings, and family activities.”
