Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Radical Rest provides communal trauma healing experiences and education to Black, Indigenous and Peoples of Color (BIPOC) folks in the Portland Metro Area. Radical Rest uplifts access to healing for Portland area black and brown communities with free to low cost communal healing events led by BIPOC healer-facilitators who center healing justice. Radical Rest uses the principles of somatics, experiential learning and trauma-informed practices to provide trauma healing spaces that reduce isolation, build resilience, expand knowledge of ancestral and healthful life practices and grow trust in self, others and the natural world. We encourage structural change in wellness work through fostering trust in oneself and the collective, through contemplation and embodiment and, of course, through rest.

Radical Return - The Radical Return Program is an annual weekend-long wellness immersion program set in the Pacific Northwest nature, focusing on providing a restorative experience through partnerships. In 2024, Radical Return had 9 attendees. Overall, our three programs conducted 13 events, serving a total of 190 unique individuals, with 95% of the people served being BIPOC. The demographics of those served included 42% Black, 18% Latinx, 9% multiracial, 5% Indigenous, 18% Asian, 2% Swanna, and 5% White. Additionally, 37% of those served were queer, trans non-binary, or two-spirit LGBTQIA+, 36% were disabled or had a chronic illness, and 49% had an income under $46,000 annually.$0$11,286
Village Lab Salon - Village Lab Salon is an in-person wellness workshop series that utilizes experiential education and exercises, trauma-informed somatics, and Theater of the Oppressed approaches to center care, witnessing, reciprocal support, skill sharing, spiritual vibrancy, uplift, and communal resilience. In 2024, VLS had 53 attendees. Overall, our three programs conducted 13 events, serving a total of 190 unique individuals, with 95% of the people served being BIPOC. The demographics of those served included 42% Black, 18% Latinx, 9% multiracial, 5% Indigenous, 18% Asian, 2% Swanna, and 5% White. Additionally, 37% of those served were queer, trans non-binary, or two-spirit LGBTQIA+, 36% were disabled or had a chronic illness, and 49% had an income under $46,000 annually.$0$8,665
