INPATIENT HOSPICE SERVICES: Hospice Hawaii Kailua Home provides 24 hours a day, seven days a week professional hospice residential care to our hospice patients that cannot be adequately provided care in their own homes. Patients receive expert, compassionate care in our 5-bed home-like residential facility on the island of Oahu and round-the-clock monitoring to be kept as symptom-free and comfortable as possible. In 2012, Hospice Hawaii Kailua Home served 113 patients and had 1,594 patient days of care, including residential indigent and respite care under our charity endowment agreement.

Activity 3

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: Hospice Hawaii gives presentations to healthcare agencies and to the community on the islands of Oahu and Molokai in regards to life-limiting illnesses on radio, television and on-site to groups of all sizes to inform and to educate the public. Topics in 2012 include grief & depression, POLST, right to die, advance directives, hospice care & services, hospice & palliative care resources, why hospice? why now?, hospice concepts, excellence in end of life care, end of life issues, pediatric hospice, grief & self-care, loss with disabilities, death debrief, grief 101, mindfulness, hospice 101, spiritual care, death & dying, protocols for death of student, grief transition, grief support and grief burnout. Hospice Hawaii also partners with Kokua Mau, a coalition of hospice and palliative care professionals, to speak to the public on end of life matters and physician orders for life-sustaining treatment. In 2012, Hospice Hawaii made approximately 100 group presentations to the public.
