THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, PARTICIPANTS LEARN KITCHEN/FOOD SAFETY, STOCKING, PACKAGING, AND BOTTLING SKILLS, ARE PROVIDED COMMERCIAL KITCHEN EXPERIENCE, AND ARE EXPOSED TO DELIVERY/CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE END GOAL OF SEEKING, OBTAINING, AND MAINTAINING EMPLOYMENT IN THE COMMUNITY. SERVED 30 TRAINEES, AND EMPLOYED A TOTAL OF 31 PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. (CONTINUED IN SCHEDULE O.)THE LANAKILA MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM IS HAWAII'S LARGEST AND ONLY ISLAND-WIDE MEAL PROVIDER FOR SENIORS, SERVING OVER 264,000 NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED MEALS THIS PAST YEAR. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES HOME DELIVERY TO OVER 1,280 HOMEBOUND SENIORS EACH DAY. OUR TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE MORE THAN A NUTRITIOUS MEAL, BUT ALSO MOMENTS OF HUMAN CONNECTION WITH OUR SENIORS AND A LINK TO OTHER SOCIAL SERVICES HELPING THEM MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND DIGNITY. IN ADDITION, THE PROGRAM PROVIDES MEALS TO 945 SENIORS AT 16 "KUPUNA WELLNESS CENTERS" ISLAND-WIDE. THESE CENTERS OFFER NUTRITION EDUCATION, COUNSELING, EXERCISE, AND SOCIALIZATION IN ADDITION TO HOT NUTRITIOUS MEALS THAT MEET THE SENIOR'S DIETARY NEEDS.
