Activity 2

Nutrition services: includes lanakila meals on wheels and food service. Lanakila food service provides training for people with disabilities in the preparation of meals for lanakila meals on wheels, schools and other groups in the community. The goal of food service is to develop the skills, behaviors and confidence needed for indiviuals to successfully seek, obtain and maintain employment in the community. Lanakila meals on wheels is hawaii's largest and only island-wide meal provider for seniors, serving over 260,000 nutritionally balanced meals each year. The program provides home delivery to over 1,200 homebound seniors each day. Lanakila meals on wheels also provides meals for 930 seniors at 16 "kupuna wellness centers" island wide. These centers offer nutrition education, counseling, exercise and socialization, in addition to meals that meet the dietary needs of seniors. The goal of lanakila meals on wheels is to prevent senior hunger and premature institutionalization of seniors, saving money for the government, taxpayers and families, and helping seniors live their final years with dignity. Served approximately 2,130 seniors and 31 trainees.

Activity 3

Teaching and learning centers: promotes self-advocacy and inclusion in the community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through innovative classes that promote independence. The program offers a variety of classes focused on assisting individuals with disabilities, such as intellectual disability and autism, to develop and master the basic life skills that are sometimes taken for granted. Activity areas include personal development, education, home management, community development, recreation and leisure and prevocational readiness. Served approximately 140 participants.
