Mission

Jays Care Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Toronto Blue Jays. As Canada's team, we use baseball to teach life-skills and create lasting social change for children and youth from coast-to-coast to-coast. Our sport-for-development programs are catered towards girls, youth with disabilities, Indigenous youth, and youth in poverty.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Form 990 will be reviewed by the Executive Director (staff/management) and by the Executive Committee (Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer, and President of the Toronto Blue Jays). Copies of Form 990 will also be distributed to the Board of Directors prior to submission to the Internal Revenue Service.

The organization regularly and consistently monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy through annual board membership reviews performed by the Governance Committee.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The process for determining the compensation of the organization's CEO, Executive Director, and top management officials is done through comparability and job grading conducted by Rogers Communications Inc.'s human resource department. Oversights and input from the Chairman of the Board, Vice Chair and Treasurer is also taken into consideration. More specifically, review and approval of compensation is conducted by the Chairman of the Board, with approval from Jays Care Foudation Board at year-end meetings. The Chairman of the Board also conducts in-camera sessions to discuss management after each meeting (a total of six times annually), he/she conducts monthly meetings and annual reviews of the Executive Director and management.

The process for determining compensation of officers and key employees of the organization is done through comparability and job grading conducted by Rogers Communications Inc.'s human resource department. Oversights and input from the Chairman of the Board is also taken into consideration, while the Executive Director reviews compensation annually. All compensation decisions are approved by the Chairman of the Board and the Board of Directors. Annual objective setting and reviews are conducted through Rogers Communications Inc.'s "Success Factors."

Jays care community clubhouse: since 2010, jays care has been inviting children and youth who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend to enjoy a fun and unforgettable blue jays viewing experience in the jays care community clubhouse. The clubhouse is a safe space for children and youth to watch their toronto blue jays with a great view of the field and food and beverages provided. This interactive suite is equipped with memorabilia from many blue jays players, accessible bench and balcony seating, a special game time welcome on the video board and even a meet and greet with ace! Jays care is proud to offer this amazing space for use by non-profit groups whos mission and vision align with jays care; the suite comes with 42 tickets and catering included. Girls at bat: girls at bat is jays cares girls-only baseball program designed for and with girls and women. The program is specially designed to make both playing and coaching feel fun and safe enough that girls and women who would normally sit on the side-lines or not even go near the field, have the courage to try. Once on the field, the program delicately weaves fun and challenging baseball drills and skills with vital self-esteem, team-building and personal health activities to ensure that all participants gain far more than baseball skills through the program. Challenger baseball: challenger baseball is jays cares adaptive baseball program run in partenrship with baseball canada and little league canada designed to empower children and youth living with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The program teaches children and youth the core life skills inherent to baseball, including: teamwork, communication, determination, resiliency, inclusion, support and courage. Challenger baseball ensures every participant has the opportunity to play in a fun and safe environment where they learn to become more independent, build confidence and self-esteem, improve their communication skills, and set and achieve their own personal goals. Rbi: rbi is a baseballfor development program based in schools across ontario. Rbi creates opportunities for students to represent their school, build relationships with their peers, learn valuable life skills and develop a passion for the sport. Rbi works with local schools, school boards and organizations to remove any barriers that students may face in getting in to the game. Participating schools receive traned coaches, equipment and uniforms so that students are fully prepared to participate in structured league play and championship tournaments. Students participate in weekly practices and games where they learn all the basic rules, fundamentals and life-lessons that come from the game of baseball.
