Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Dpf's programs and accomplishments in 2018with more than 150,000 supporters, death penalty focus (dpf) is one of the world's largest organizations dedicated solely to ending capital punishment. For nearly 30 years we have worked to raise public awareness, build coalitions, and educate policy makers about the death penalty and its alternatives. Because the end of capital punishment around the world depends on leadership by the united states, and because ending capital punishment in the us depends on leadership by california, 2018 was a year in which we ran several high-profile public education and advocacy campaigns built on the foundation laid by our programs.

Public education regarding the death penalty and alternatives to the death penalty.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Directors ed redlich and sara timberman are married.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Dpf's outside certified public accountant prepares the form 990. After reviewing it, the executive director (ed) submits a draft to dpf's executive committee (ec), the board has authorized the ec, which is composed of dpf officers and other board members, to approve the form 990 and other annual filings on its behalf. Once the ec's questions and comments have been resolved to their satisfaction, the accountant finalizes the document. Dpf then emails a copy of the final form 990 to all board members. After completing that step, dpf files the form 990 with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The executive director's salary is determined by the executive committee and then voted on by the full board. Other employee compensation or reviews are determined by the executive director based on research with other non-profits who have completed recent salary surveys.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 18

Governing documents and financial statements are available at the organization's main office upon request.
