Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Linda nguyen woo and trang nguyen are sisters.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Form 990 is prepared by our outside auditor. Following the completion of a draft of the audited financial statements and a draft of form 990, the outside auditor meets with the finance/audit committee to review the finanical statements and form 990 to assure that all representations and answers to issues, comments and questions are accurate. Appropriate revisions are made to the audited financial statements and form 990 and the revised drafts are given to the full board of directors for their review and comments prior to publication of the audited financial statements and filing of the form 990.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

At each board and committee meeting prior to voting on any issue, board/committee members are asked to identify any conflict of interest in existence with regard to the item being voted on and to abstain from voting where a conflict of interest exists.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The organization's executive board (subcommittee of board of directors) sets compensation for the chief executive officer/executive director (ceo/ed). The executive board performs an annual review of the performance of the ceo/ed. The executive board also gathers input for setting the ceo/ed's compensation from nonprofit compensation surveys and/or from compensation information received from member industry associations. The deliberation and decision regarding the ceo/ed's compensation is contemporaneously documented in the minutes of the executive board and approved by the full board of directors. The ceo/ed is responsible for setting the compensation of other employees through salary information reviewed from similar sources as used in setting the ed compensation. The employee compensation decision is documented in the applicable employee's payroll file.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and audited financial statements are available upon request.

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 9:

DEBT FORGIVENESS 19,417.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

Interval house's audit committee has responsibility for the oversight of the audit of its financial statements and selection of the independent auditor, subject to the approval of the board of directors. This responsibility is unchanged from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Accounting standards require an organization to evaluate its tax positions and provide for a liability for any positions that would not be considered "more likely than not" to be upheld under a tax authority examination. Management has evaluated its tax positions and has concluded that a provision for a tax liability is not necessary at fiscal year end. Generally, the organization's information returns remain open for examination for three (federal) or four (state of california) years from the date of filing.

INTERVAL HOUSE'S MULTIFACETED CONTINUUM OF HOUSING PROGRAMS INCLUDES EMERGENCY SHELTERS, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING, AND PERMANENT HOUSING AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS: INTERVAL HOUSE OPENED ITS FIRST EMERGENCY SHELTER IN 1979, SERVING AS THE FOUNDATIONAL "LIFELINE" FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN IN CRISIS, AND OPENED THE NATION'S FIRST TRANSITIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER IN 1980, OFFERING CONTINUED SUPPORT TO FAMILIES THAT NEED A LONGER TRANSITION PERIOD TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT, CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAMS: INTERVAL HOUSE IS RECOGNIZED AS A "MODEL" HOUSING PROGRAM BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) FOR TAILORING CUTTING-EDGE HOUSING APPROACHES AND PROGRAMS TO MEET THE SPECIALIZED NEEDS OF UNDERSERVED HOMELESS AND AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. INTERVAL HOUSE IS ONE OF THE LARGEST PROVIDERS OF RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS IN ITS REGION, WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN SERVING HIGH-NEED HOUSEHOLDS FACING A MULTITUDE OF COMPLEX CULTURAL, LINGUISTIC AND ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO HOUSING STABILITY. INTERVAL HOUSE HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND RAPID REHOUSING, HAVING STARTED THE NATION'S FIRST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAM (1995) AND WAS FOR 20 YEARS THE ONLY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM UTILIZING THE HOUSING FIRST BEST PRACTICE MODEL. THE AGENCY HAS SINCE BEEN CONTINUOUSLY RECOGNIZED BY HUD REPRESENTATIVES FOR ITS EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP IN DEVELOPING SUCCESSFUL HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAMS THAT ROUTINELY EXCEED ALL CLIENT OUTCOME AND FINANCIAL EXPENDITURE GOALS. REGIONAL HOUSING SYSTEMS HAVE ALSO ADOPTED INTERVAL HOUSE'S PROGRAM DESIGN AS A BEST PRACTICE AND THE AGENCY'S DATA COLLECTION METHODS AS THEIR STANDARDIZED TOOLS. THE ORGANIZATION CURRENTLY OPERATES NUMEROUS RAPID RE-HOUSING SCATTERED SITES AND EXCLUSIVE LINKAGES TO RENTAL HOUSING.
