EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACHDuring the past year, the museum frequently partnered with Coachella Valley school districts and colleges, public libraries, and local city governments, and we hosted Free Thursday Evenings in conjunction with the weekly VillageFest street fair in downtown Palm Springs, which often includes free film screenings. A Free 2nd Sundays program continues on the second Sunday of each month at which the museum offers special family activities, artist demonstrations, and films in addition to its regular exhibitions. In October, the Museum hosted its annual Da de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Celebration which attracted 5,800 visitors on that single day. The total number of clients served by all Education Programs is in excess of 63,000 Coachella Valley residents.Adult Education Programs benefited approximately 36,000 attendees. In addition to docent-led tours of the galleries and special exhibitions, adults participated in art workshops in drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media; evening lectures in the Annenberg Theater and weekend symposia; Osher Lifelong Learning Classes; free community days, and outreach programs.Youth Program attendance for the fiscal year included approximately 20,000 students and children who participated in free school tours geared to specific age levels and curricula, children's education programs, free community days, and those who visited the museum with their family or to complete school assignments.Specialized museum education programs serving youth this past year included:Art Within Reach (outreach to schools in PSUSD with 3 visits plus one museum visit)KidStudio Projects (an after-school program for children in grades 1-6)ArtVentures (multi-visit after school program)Museum Art Camp (for youngsters 3-12) Education Programs and Community Outreach (cont'd)Eyes On/Hands On (specialized 1-hour docent-led tour of the museum galleries followed by a related "hands-on" art project in our studio classrooms)Writing in the Museum (docent-guided tour of specific artworks, followed by descriptive, reflective, and analytical writing exercises)Teen Docent/TeenStudio Projects programs (academic extra-curricular enrichment activity for high school students)Zone 101 (a community gallery and activity space for children and their families)
