Mount saint mary's university is a california nonprofit public benefits corporation founded by the sisters of st. Joseph of carondelet (provincialate), a religious community of the roman catholic church. The university was founded in 1925 by the sisters of st. Joseph and has operated continously since that date. The objective of mount saint mary's university as a nonprofit educational institution is service. The university has devoted itself to excellence in liberal arts and sciences and grants degrees in associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate programs, with a special focus on the education of women for leadership positions in our society.
