Form 990, Part III, Line 3: Ceased Conducting or Significant Changes To Services

The Organization's Marin Asian Advocacy program became an independent non-profit in Fiscal Year 2016-2017; therefore its revenue and expenditures only reflect activity to July 31, 2016.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Community Action Marins Central Kitchen (formerly known as The Food Services program) serves over 700 children every day. Each day the kitchen prepares a lunch that is delivered hot to the various Community Action Marin Head Start, Early Head Start and Child Development Program classrooms. With obesity and diabetes becoming a national health epidemic, introducing healthy foods at an early age can have a long term positive impact on health. For some of the children, these are the most nutritious meals they will eat all day. These daily meals help to improve nutritional well-being, thus supporting their physical, intellectual and emotional growth. At some sites children participate in growing fruits and vegetables. This outdoor education is integrated into the classroom curriculum, and the fruits and vegetables grown by the children supplement the meals prepared by the kitchen. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Energy Program - Community Action Marin is the local administrator of the Federally-funded Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Our Energy Program also acts as a conduit to other energy assistance and residential conservation programs. Once-a-year assistance in paying gas, electric, wood and propane home energy costs. Eligibility and assistance level based on household size, gross monthly income, and program priorities. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Community Action Marin's Safety Net program (formerly known as The Emergency Family Needs Program) assists Marin families, seniors, and the disabled with emergency financial needs for families, seniors, and the disabled with emergency financial needs that are not covered by other community assistance programs. We assist people with rent or mortgage payments, rental deposits, car repairs, prescription eyeglasses and food among other emergency needs. Our safety net programs are designed to assist people in the neighborhoods where they live or at an agency where they may already be receiving services. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Prosperity Partners program is a collaborative of agencies and businesses providing a continuum of asset-building services to help Marins low-to-moderate income families and individuals achieve economic stability, opportunity and upward mobility. The program helps families and individuals achieve financial independence and to understand basic money management skills. Through coaching counseling and education clients increase their income, decrease their debt, improve credit scores and grow their savings. Coaches work to set financial goals, track and plan spending. Additional services include tax preparation, access to low-cost banking products and a variety of financial workshops. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Marin Asian Advocary program provides help to southeast Asian immigrants and refugees become self-sufficient through a range of services. Marin Asian Advocacy program became an independent non-profit in fiscal Year 2016-2017; therefore its revenue and expenditures only reflect activity to July 31, 2016.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Head Start and Early Head Start program is a child and family development program that provides low-income families and their children (ages 0-5) with comprehensive health services, education services and social services. Families are supported as they make positive changes in their lives that will benefit them now and in the future. Parents have an opportunity to play a vital role in the daily life of the program. Parents attend parent meetings, literacy classes and volunteer in the classrooms and are elected to serve on the Policy Council and program committees. CAM child development programs provide, vision, and hearing screenings, referrals to social service agencies, and assessments for children with special needs. Community Action Marins Head Start program is successful because it is built on partnership among parents, staff and the community.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Mental Health Programs- The mission of Community Action Marins Mental Health Program is to provide an atmosphere of warmth and caring that will give the best opportunities for those with mental illness to reach their highest potential. All services are free and are provided by trained Mental Health Peer Counselors. Our activities range from working with individuals and families as peer case managers to helping people through times of crises. Each day we work to help teach people about their illness or recent diagnosis. We educate parents, family members and friends about mental illness so that they will be better able to help their loved ones. The Mental Health Program is committed to teaching, empowering, and advocating for our clients.
