“Pursuant to the Lowell Alumni Association's bylaws, there is an annual meeting open to the organizations entire membership (comprising all persons who have ever attended Lowell High School) at which ten members of the board of directors are to be elected to full three-year terms. The board is authorized to include a total of 32 directors, 30 of which are elected by the membership to staggered three-year terms plus the immediate past president plus a representative of our Southern California Alumni Club, which is not separately organized/incorporated.”

“Other than the election of directors, the only other action that requires a vote of the membership, pursuant to the bylaws, is an amendment to the bylaws regarding the authorized number of directors. The Board of Directors is explicitly authorized by the bylaws to carry out all other operations of the organization.”

“Local chapters abide by the same policies and procedures as Lowell Alumni Association.”

“The federal Form 990 is reviewed by the LAA Finance Committee, chaired by the Associations Treasurer.”

“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Annual Fund Campaign Projects During fiscal year 2016-17, we funded several projects/programs that were identified as the focus of our recent Annual Fund Campaigns, including the purchase of new computers and other equipment for the Lowell HS journalism program ($19,912); instructor stipend for the Hebrew language program ($12,949); construction of a new batting cage for the Lowell baseball and softball teams ($12,827); purchase of a set of chromebooks and chromebook cart for student use ($11,807); and support for the Lowell Mock Trial team ($6,008). OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Designated Gifts In keeping with the expressed wishes of donors who have designated their gifts to specific programs/projects, we used designated gifts during the 2016-17 fiscal year to support various academic and extracurricular program areas, including the Hebrew language program ($10,491); coaching and judging stipends for the Speech/Debate program ($9,507); partial funding for the baseball teams trip to Arizona and team equipment ($5,024); computer purchases for student use ($4,980); partial funding for a Geology class field trip to Yosemite ($3,500); partial funding for the JROTC Girls Drill team trip to a competition in Southern California ($1,500). OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Educational Technology As part of a long-standing partnership with the Lowell High School Technology Committee (comprised of faculty, students, staff, parents and alumni), the Lowell Alumni Association provided $40,000 in fiscal year 2016-17 for the purchase of technology equipment and software licenses deployed throughout the campus to serve all of todays Lowell students.”
