Barton community clinic. The barton community clinic provides routine medical and urgent care to medicare and medi-cal beneficiaries in a rural underserved area. Clinic patients can usually be seen "same day" which improves medical outcomes. The barton community clinic combines the efforts of 32 skilled professionals including, certified health care providers, medical support staff, and contracts with family and specialty physicians. Specialty physicians who see patients at the clinic include orthopedics, high risk obstetrics, gynecology, pain management, child psychiatry, adult telemedicine psychiatry, adhd/add clinics and treatment, and neurology. More than 60 percent of the clinic's patients are women and children. The remaining 40 percent are teen and adult males. Approximately 43 percent of the patients use english as a second language. Private pay patients are charged on a sliding scale based on income and many pay as little as $5 for medical services. Patients are often undocumented migrant workers not eligible for medi-cal or are insured low income patients with very high deductibles. Migrant workers come to south lake tahoe to work in the stateline casinos in the summer months and at the ski resorts during winter months. Barton's community clinic serves as a gateway for patients in need of health care including those seeking family planning services, pre conception information and referrals for sterilization, level 1 infertility services, std treatment, referrals for hiv services and screening for des (diethylstilbestrol) exposure.

Activity 3

Barton health financial assistance (charity care) program. The program assists patients of barton memorial hospital with their medical bills. It matches the patients' ability to pay according to their unique circumstance. Patients are asked to complete an application and provide financial information about their income and assets to determine their ability to pay. The amount of discount the patient receives toward their medical bill depends on their adjusted income compared with the u.s. Department of health & human services poverty income guidelines. Who is it for? Designed for those patients who cannot afford their medical bills barton health provides discounts for those with incomes up to 450 percent of the most recent poverty income guidelines and/or under special circumstances.impact: $5,542,588 of patient accounts were written off for our community members.
