Mission

The bread project helps low-income individuals with barriers to employment (i.e. Individuals with a lack of a work history, gaps in employment, disabilities, limited english fluency, limited education, histories of substance abuse, and ex-offenders) work towards self-sufficiency through employment in the food industry and beyond.

Training, job placement assistance and support services to help fight poverty.

UPON ENTERING OUR PROGRAM, 98% OF THESE INDIVIDUALS WERE EXTREMELY LOW-INCOME AND 2% VERY LOW-INCOME, 88% WERE LIVING BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL, 60% WERE RECEIVING PUBLIC BENEFITS, 23% RELIED ON SAVINGS OR ASSISTANCE FROM FAMILY MEMBERS. THE AVERAGE AGE OF PARTICIPANTS WAS 38 YEARS OLD, AND THE AVERAGE TIME THAT PARTICIPANTS WERE UNEMPLOYED WAS OVER TWO YEARS (27 MONTHS). 17% OF PARTICIPANTS WERE IMMIGRANTS, 11% WERE REFUGEES AND ASYLEES, 27% WERE FORMERLY INCARCERATED OR HAD A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND, 21% DID NOT HAVE A GED OR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, 35% REPORTED A DISABILITY AND 38% LACKED PERMANENT HOUSING.
