Mission

Openhouse enables San Francisco Bay Area LGBTQ+ seniors to overcome the unique challenges they face as they age by providing housing, direct services and community programs. (continued on Schedule O)

Major Activities

Activity 2
Social services:openhouse targets at-risk lgbt seniors to increase access to health, support, and community-based services by providing: information and referrals; emotional support; assessment of service needs; and care planning. Openhouse coordinates with partner agencies as needed to enroll consumers in employment counseling, benefits assistance, in-home care, mental health support, and other services. Openhouse then provides one-on-one assistance and on-going follow-up to ensure the consumer is accessing and successfully utilizing the resources identified in the care plan. In 2012/13 over 450 lgbt seniors received social services.
Activity 3
Community building:openhouse organizes over 70 hours of intellectually stimulating activities and opportunities for civic engagement each month that bring lgbt seniors together to meet each other, reduce social isolation and enhance their quality of life. Examples of these activities include: self-directed social events like game days and monthly potlucks; movie screenings, museum tours and other outings; general discussion groups; financial planning seminars; and arts and writing workshops. In 2012/13, 200 participants attended a community building activity.

THE ORGANIZATION HAS SINCE SECURED ADDITIONAL PRE-DEVELOPMENT FUNDS FROM THE CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO TO ADVANCE THE PROJECT AND EXPECTS TO SECURE CONSTRUCTION FINANCING IN ORDER TO BEGIN BUILDING IN 2014.
