Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

1)monarch - the monarch migration will be getting a boost as partners new and old work to link fragmented flyways with milkweeds and nectar plants. Monarchs have made headlines recently, but the news hasn't been good. Their once dramatic migration has diminished, and their overwintering numbers are at an all-time low. The solution to bringing back the monarch migration is connecting food gaps that have resulted from increased urban and rural growth and excessive use of herbicides in agricultural areas. 2)cdrc - corn dust research - the cdrc participating organizations include the american seed trade association, the american honey producers association, the american beekeeping federation, the association of equipment manufacturers, bayer cropscience, the canadian honey council, the farm equipment manufacturers association, the national corn growers association, the pollinator partnership, syngenta, and the university of maryland. These organizations came together to fund and oversee research projects in 2013 to better understand ideas for mitigating risks to honey bees from exposure to fugitive dust emitted from fan exhaust from machinery during corn planting.

IRS990/MissionDesc0THE POLLINATOR PARTNERSHIP IS A NON-PROFIT 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION-- THE LARGEST ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD DEDICATED EXCLUSIVELY TO THE PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF POLLINATORS AND THEIR ECOSYSTEMS. BIRDS, BATS, BEES, BUTTERFLIES, BEETLES, AND OTHER SMALL MAMMALS THAT POLLINATE PLANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING US ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE BITES OF FOOD. THEY ALSO SUSTAIN OUR ECOSYSTEMS AND PRODUCE OUR NATURAL RESOURCES BY HELPING PLANTS REPRODUCE. WITHOUT THE ACTIONS OF POLLINATORS AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIES, OUR FOOD SUPPLY, AND SURROUNDING LANDSCAPES WOULD COLLAPSE.

ART SCHAAFSMA, UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH ON BEHALF OF THE GRAIN FARMERS OF ONTARIO. IT IS HOPED THAT THE PRELIMINARY RESULTS AND PROVISIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS WILL INFORM BEST PRACTICES FOR THE 2014 PLANTING SEASON. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH IN SUBSEQUENT SEASONS WILL BE NEEDED TO REPLICATE AND SUBSTANTIATE THE FINDINGS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF POTENTIAL HARM TO HONEY BEES HAVE BEEN TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY BY EVERY INSTITUTION INVOLVED IN THIS COLLABORATION. WE HAVE ACHIEVED SOMETHING REMARKABLE AND RARE - A CONSORTIUM WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION FOR HONEY BEES THROUGH BALANCED, UNBIASED, AND COOPERATIVE ENGAGEMENT IN OBJECTIVE SCIENCE.

IN ADDITION TO THIS MONITORING AND SURVEY FUNCTION, THE POLLINATOR PARTNERSHIP (P2) ADVOCATES OUR S.H.A.R.E. (SIMPLY HAVE AREAS RESERVED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT) APPROACH TO THE PLANET. EVERY HUMAN INTERFACE WITH A LANDSCAPE CAN SIMPLY HAVE AREAS RESERVED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. WE BELIEVE THAT POLLINATORS SHOW THE WAY TO SHARING. WHEN YOU PLANT FOR POLLINATORS, THEN PLANTS, POLLINATORS, PEOPLE, AND THE ENVIRONMENT ALL BENEFIT. FROM BACKYARDS TO WINDOW BOXES, SCHOOLS TO FARMS, FROM CHURCHES TO CORPORATIONS, EVERYONE IS GETTING INVOLVED AND REGISTERING THEIR S.H.A.R.E. LANDSCAPE. OUR GOALIS TO REGISTER 1,000,000 S.H.A.R.E. SITES BY 2020. OUR WEB SITE WWW.POLLINATOR.ORG HAS THE EASY UPLOAD FORM THAT CAN INCLUDE PHOTOS OR LOGOS FROM THE SITE. THE RESULTING GOOGLE-MAP IS BUIDLING ACROSS THE GLOBE, SHOWING PLACES FO KEEN POLLINATOR INTEREST AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES TO INCREASE HABITAT FOR POLLINATORS.
