This past year we have been in settlement administration phase for the three big class actions we settled in 2014 against Costco (gender discrimination), Taco Bell (disability rights) and Bashas Inc. (equal pay for Latino workers). We also authored several amicus briefs in important class action cases and drafted collaborative letters urging publication of decisions in key cases.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Grants The Impact Fund awards grants to nonprofit legal firms, private attorneys, and small law firms who seek to advance social justice in the areas of civil and human rights, environmental justice, and poverty law. We seek to provide funding for public interest litigation that will potentially benefit a large number of people, lead to significant law reform, or raise public consciousness. In the 2015/16 fiscal year, the Impact Fund committed a total of $347,600 in grant funding. The Impact Fund has committed more than $6 million to justice-related causes since the organization's inception.

A token registration fee is collected. In September 2015 we presented our three-day training institute in both Oakland and Chicago taking 20 students at each through all the phases of a mock class action. In February 2016, we presented our annual class action, attracting 250 practitioners from around the nation, sharing current news, developments and best practice. We also presented one-day trainings, seminars and workshops around the state of California primarily serving legal services nonprofit agencies.
