Activity 2

EDUCATIONAlonzo King LINES Ballet offers training and scholarships for aspiring and pre-professional dancers, as well as in an academic setting through collaboration with the Dominican University of California BFA Program. All of our education programs provide faculty consisting of current Company dancers, Company alumni, local and renowned guest teachers and choreographers. Students are given the opportunity to perform works staged by local and guest choreographers, LINES Ballet Repertoire, as well as their own choreography in a local theater and in outreach opportunities. The 9-week Summer Pogram (2012) for students age 11-24, welcomed 204 students; our 2-year Training Program for ages 17-24 was at capacity with 35 students; the BFA Program had 49 students in attendance. The BFA Program is the only one in the country to be led by a living choreographer, Alonzo King. This past year, 8 of our students graduated with honors, 6 Training Program students were invited to perform with the Company in our Spring season, 10 of 18 students from the Training Program went on to dance with professional companies worldwide. Our Discovery Outreach workshops welcomed over 300 students in Minneapolis, Tampa, Atlanta to use dance to bridge gaps created by diversity of experience, perspective, culture and socio-economic background.

Activity 3

DANCE CENTERSince 1989, Alonzo King LINES Ballet Dance Center has made its vibrant arts facility available to the public. Offering an extensive selecton of open adult classes, the Center serves over 3,800 dancers annually from absolute beginner to professional. Offering workshops and master classes in modern, classical variation and musical theater from both renowned artists inlcuding Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Anna Halprin, Amanda K. Miller, Hope Mohr Dance and local artists Mary Carbonara, Kat Worthington, Nol Simonse, Michael Velez, Jenni Bregman, Raissa Simpson and Barbara Bernardo. Open houses are held biannually to welcome new dancers and non-dancers to the Dance Center, as well as outreach efforts which establish relationships and bring dance to local institutions for youth. The Dance Center also leads the organization's community involvement bringing dance to the streets with performances and all-ages classes in San Francisco's Union Square and UN Plaza in addition to being a founding member of Central Market Arts which promotes the Central Market Business District and neighborhood as a vital arts district in San Francisco.
