Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

During fy 2015-16, we worked with 2 landowners along .68 miles of greasy creek (including the wells creek tributary) to improve channel function and fish habitat, where we installed 12 large wood structures. The council implemented streamside reforestation projects along nearly 1 mile of stream on 4 acres across 14 land ownerships, and treated approximately .27 acres of invasive knotweed along approximately 8.6 miles of streams. The council worked with 16 landowners on 65 acres to enhance a network of prairie habitats in the wren area that are essential to threatened and endangered plants and butterflies. Approximately 9,365 kincaid's lupine seeds were planted on 9 private properties, totaling 3,893 square feet of planting area. Approximately 10,550 nectar plants (bulbs, plugs, seedlings) of 11 species were planted on 13 properties. Lwc riparian and floodplain forest restoration program: during fy 2015-16, the luckiamute watershed council worked with a total of 194 landowners along 54.3 miles of the luckiamute and little luckiamute rivers, plunkett creek, and ash creek to restore riparian and floodplain forest conditions for improved fish and wildlife habitat and water quality. These projects involved planting 73,075 native trees and shrubs on 90 acres and stewarding 636 total acres of revegetation across 40 land ownerships. The council also worked with 154 additional landowners to conduct noxious weed control, primarily knotweed and ivy control to protect riparian zones along 52.9 river miles. The luckiamute watershed council reinstated its temperature monitoring program, collecting water temperature data at eight locations to understand the status of local streams and effectiveness of projects.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Lwc outdoor classroom program: during fy 2015-16, the luckiamute watershed council worked with central high school teachers and students to create an after school environmental club that conducted activities such as planting native species, removing invasive weeds, installing bird nesting boxes, and cleaning up trash along ash creek in independence, or. The lwc also worked with other schools and volunteers to conduct weed pulls and reforestation stewardship activities. We initiated our community science series, offering multiple educational events, and organized two tours of restoration projects, drawing over 30 tour participants.
