“Portland open studios creates a unique educational opportunity for the public to witness the process of art in the making. During our 2014-2015 fiscal year, 96 artists opened their studios to the community. More than 6,000 tickets were distributed, allowing as many as 12,000 adults and their children to explore artists' studios and learn about the media, materials, and business of the creative endeavor.in addition, portland open studios accomplished the following of public benefit during its 2014-2015 year:portland open studios continued its educational internship program, designed to connect high school and college students with working artist mentors. Through this program more than 40 high school and college students were paired with artists during the portland open studios 2014 tour. In the course of the internships students received portfolio reviews, personalized art lessons (in some cases with materials that students would not have otherwise had access), and learned about the structure of an artist's studio, and what it takes to develop a career in the arts.portland open studios continues to offer the kimberly gales scholarship to emerging artists. This scholarship is available to applicants between the ages of twenty and thirty, waives the tour's participation fee, and pays a 100 stipend. Recipients' work is highlighted in the tour guide, providing exposure for young artists who might not otherwise be able to participate. The recipient in 2014 was emily myers.an additional award was granted this year to honor a member who had gone above and beyond in service to the organization. The winner of the 2014 service award was erin leichty.new for the 2014 tour portland open studios expanded its maps to school program in order to offer free copies of our map-only tickets to every public high school in clackamas county, multnomah county, and washington county, as well as colleges in those counties that offered a art degree program. In total the maps to schools program in 2014 gave away over 3,200 maps to more than 60 schools.”
