Activity 2

Racial justice: we are laying a critical foundation for ongoing, long term alliance building, education and leadership development between and within racial justice and lgbt equality movements in oregon. We work to advance racial justice priorities, build a strong team of lgbt people of color leaders engaged in public education programs and strengthen the ability of allied people of color organizations to play a leadership role in lgbt equality and gender justice work. In 2011 the standing together leadership team launched the our families video series - a compelling collection of 8 minute films aimed to raise the visibility of lgbt families of color - the 4 films have over 16,000 views; developed the marrying racial justice and marriage equality workshop and educated over 250 people; held queer people of color social events with over 200 attendees; continued to work with coalition partners on the first ever racial equity report card which grades the oregon legislature in their work on racial equity.

Activity 3

Transgender justice: basic rights education fund is committed to advancing equality for transgender oregonians. We recognize that within the lgbt rights movement, transgender people have been historically excluded-and we know that transgender members of our community face unique barriers to accessing accurate documentation, appropriate health care, housing and employment. That's why we support trans-inclusive policies, and why we have committed to lead campaigns to increase the safety and wellbeing of transgender oregonians. During 2010 basic rights education fund organized a trans justice health care summit attended by 140 people; trained 200 people through trans justice program workshops; held one on one meetings with 24 policymakers to educate them about access to trans-inclusive health insurance; educated 30 business leaders at portland area business association; worked in conjuction with city of portland to change policy to include trans-inclusive care; launched a comprehensive know your rights guide for trans oregonians attended by 55 community members.
