Nami (national alliance on mental illness) broward county, inc. Is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, formed in 1982 and is affiliated with nami national and nami florida, to provide support, education, advocacy and research to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

NAMI BROWARD COUNTY HAD A VERY GOOD AND ACTIVE YEAR IN 2015. WE MAINTAINED OUR MEMBERSHIP, WERE ACTIVE IN MOST OF THE NAMI SIGNATURE PROGRAMS, WORKED WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE CARE OF OUR LOVED ONES AND ADVOCATED FOR BETTER HOUSING AND MEDICAL TREATMENT. LISTED BELOW ARE SOME OF THE PROGRAMS, WE HAVE WORKED ON: -FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE 3 TIMES A MONTH. -CONSUMER SUPPORT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE 12 TIMES A MONTH. -FAMILY-TO-FAMILY CLASSES WERE RUN 6 TIMES THIS YEAR, INCLUDING TWO CLASSES IN SPANISH. -PEER-TO-PEER CLASSES WERE RUN 4 TIMES THIS YEAR. -WE PARTICIPATED IN 15 CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM (CIT) TRAININGS. Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Nami broward county had a very good and active year in 2015. We maintained our membership, were active in most of the nami signature programs, worked with community organizations to improve the care of our loved ones and advocated for better housing and medical treatment. Listed below are some of the programs, we have worked on: -family support groups are available 3 times a month. -consumer support groups are available 12 times a month. -family-to-family classes were run 6 times this year, including two classes in spanish. -peer-to-peer classes were run 4 times this year. -we participated in 15 crisis intervention team (cit) trainings. These trainings for law enforcement officers. The trainings graduated over 400 officers and emergency medical professionals. Law enforcement officers are trained to better understand how to approach and work with people who are mentally ill, primarily using verbal de-escalating techniques. -we ran 3 consumer socials with the broward county department of parks. These are dances for adults with mental illness with an average attendance of 100 people. -we ran 8 speaker meetings with topics of interest to our members. To raise awareness and to reduce the stigma of mental illness and to raise funds for our group, we ran a nami walks 5k with a gross revenue of over 112,000 and had 1,200 people in attendance. -our annual holiday party was free to all members, where we celebrated the holidays, recognized volunteers and walk team and donation leaders. -our office was staffed from 9 to 5, monday to friday where we received many calls from families and individuals seeking help for themselves or their loved ones. -our activities were promoted in the newspapers, on our facebook page, through emails and on our website.

TO RAISE AWARENESS AND TO REDUCE THE STIGMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND TO RAISE FUNDS FOR OUR GROUP, WE RAN A NAMI WALKS 5K WITH A GROSS REVENUE OF OVER 112,000 AND HAD 1,200 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. -OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY WAS FREE TO ALL MEMBERS, WHERE WE CELEBRATED THE HOLIDAYS, RECOGNIZED VOLUNTEERS AND WALK TEAM AND DONATION LEADERS. -OUR OFFICE WAS STAFFED FROM 9 TO 5, MONDAY TO FRIDAY WHERE WE RECEIVED MANY CALLS FROM FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS SEEKING HELP FOR THEMSELVES OR THEIR LOVED ONES. -OUR ACTIVITIES WERE PROMOTED IN THE NEWSPAPERS, ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE, THROUGH EMAILS AND ON OUR WEBSITE.

LISTED BELOW ARE SOME OF THE PROGRAMS, WE HAVE WORKED ON: -FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE 3 TIMES A MONTH. -CONSUMER SUPPORT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE 12 TIMES A MONTH. -FAMILY-TO-FAMILY CLASSES WERE RUN 6 TIMES THIS YEAR, INCLUDING TWO CLASSES IN SPANISH. -PEER-TO-PEER CLASSES WERE RUN 4 TIMES THIS YEAR. -WE PARTICIPATED IN 15 CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM (CIT) TRAININGS. THESE TRAININGS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. THE TRAININGS GRADUATED OVER 400 OFFICERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE TRAINED TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW TO APPROACH AND WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE MENTALLY ILL, PRIMARILY USING VERBAL DE-ESCALATING TECHNIQUES. -WE RAN 3 CONSUMER SOCIALS WITH THE BROWARD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PARKS.
